On our first full day Sunday 11/25 we walked into town from Guavaberry for breakfast sandwiches at the Bath and Turtle and fooled around with the pay phones for too long and walked on to the Spirit of Anegada for a half day sail at 9:15 am for our 9:am sail, thought he said 9:30. Spirit has a new owner and crew from Oregon (Ted and Chelsea, his daughter(his daughter is on post high school sabatical) I think are their names) and both they and their boat are very very wonderful. It has three red sails, the ones with the carib emblem are stowed away. The boat is open hull with tons of shade cover and booms above everyone. Ted managed a marina in Oregon for years and is very adept at sailing and sea life. As soon as we were out of the harbor at Virgin Gorda marina, the sails went up and the thrills began. The boat went fast and as throughout our vacation the wind was great for sailing and the sky full of gentle clouds and beautiful dark blue sky and sun. We were taken to George dog for a good snorkle and returned likewise 4 hours later. We booked them for the 8 days later but they had to sail into St Thomas for business, and they kindly set us up and tracked us down to personally tell us about the booking for a full day on the MaryIrene with Monique and John out of Biris Creek for us and our 6 friends the following week.
Took a cab home for $5 and did a commisary store lunch and spent the afternoon at Spring Bay sitting and taking it all in. Seemed to recognize the others sitting there from previous trips, but didn't know the names. Saw ole Scruffy and Bo I quess and a few new pooches, they all seemed much more energetic and larger than on previous trips and a real delight to the Guavaberry crowd. On couple from Rockville had been there a long time and we got the lowdown on all the island restaurant additions, especially a Mr. Fritz Chinese restaurant??? The surf was really up so we didnt do much but got ready later for happy hour at Mad Dogs.
Old Friends at Mad Dogs
Well our long awaited reaquantance with (in seating order from Fallen Jerusalem towards Spring Bay) Mad Dogs owners and staff: Steve, Edith, Lillian, and Colin, and also in seating order old friends: Ludwig, Nikki, Carol, John, Mike, Tom from the Coast Guard, Toms sister, and a flash from the past the 3 Darryls who are now known as Jim, Ray, and Tom. What a blast it was spendind many hours at Mad Dogs and the Bath and Turtle with them and going to ANEGADA on DOUBLE D with Captain Corrina and Nikki and John's family. This is the second post Thanksgiving and Xmas lighting Mad Dogs party we have joined in with and the other make it a tradition every year for many many years.
Next Morning we break down and rent a jeep from Leon at L and S, and drive over to Georgio's for lunch. We have the place, the view, the food , and the staff all to our little old selves- and in 2 full years it is still the major quality as previously. The chef brings out a 4 foot live lobster and holds him up for all of our amusement (staff and us ) We have the salads which are meticulously cut and organized on a large horizontal platter, and Italian crepes, one with spinish, and one with mushrooms. Yummy. Best view and situation for lunch, for afterwards it was a 2 minute ride to our favorite beach- Savannah Bay.
Next: Later- Dancn at Bath and Turtle, Internet, and trip to Anageda including Pats Pottery, the Big Bamboo and Pams Bakery.
[Linked Image]
