TripAdvisor is an interesting forum. I've read some great reviews and some very negative reviews and all referencing the same entity so you really do have to take them all with a grain of salt. Personally, I'd prefer a reference from someone known to me here on the TTOL forum or even on any of the Facebook groups before I'd take them (TA) too seriously as my prime source of reference.
The first time we went to Honolulu we were contemplating staying at a specific hotel but in reading the only TA review we could find we changed our mind and stayed elsewhere at a much higher cost. Come to find out, well after our trip, friends stayed there and loved it.
