A brief history of reggae music, and the tradition of what the islanders play for parties today includes the introduction of large PA systems into the West Indies.

The concept has never left and is the way of the islands today. As early as the late 50's, the new technology made it to the islands and brought people in to town, the beach or wherever the music was going to be. It was a major coup back in the day and nobody has let go.

I remember staying at the Liberty Inn on Simpson Bay one quiet Sunday night. The restaurant next door had 2 sound systems going, full blast and not a customer in sight. When I went to ask why, I was told the music was loud "So the customers would come in". This was 11 pm. No dancing ladies, smelly bar, I am pretty sure it didn't work
