Recently back but don't want to do a chronological report, more subject oriented with anecdotal comments.

Dogs - saw a number while driving and on beaches. All look pretty darn happy with their lot in life. Friendly, reasonably to well fed, kinda happy looking with somewhat smug smiles.

Cats - a different lot. Lots of running from bush to bush. Kind of a wary, skittish, ready to climb a tree look. Maybe that's wy dogs look smug??

Mosquitos - they were a difinite nusiance. Seemed to be highest density in lowlands area from Maho through Sandy Ground but also endemic to north end of island. Sneaky things that don't make that warning buzz. You know they've been there about 5 minutes too late. Even found 5 or 6 of them lurking in our 5th story room. Especially devious when attacking fair skinned tourists sitting at outdoor bars in evenings thinning down their blood density. The tourist cholsteral level must be a premium draw compared to locals. Good news is that OFF seems to work pretty well or if you can find better, get it. Use liberaly before going out and reapply to legs/ankles and exposed arms/shoulders several times each outing. Repellant is readily available at local stores and price is ok.

No-see-ums - seem to be equally disbursed all over the island. Similar in devious behavior to misquitos other than the ankle area is of preferred choice, itch doesn't last as long, and bite swelling is not as bad. They'll gitcha most anywhere including beach if wind is down as opposed to mosquitos lurking closer to shadowy areas. Whenever possible, however, misquitos and noseeums like to conduct joint manuvers. Same repellent rules as for mosquitos.

Enjoy, leave your pint of blood. Just make sure to keep your bodily fluids up and properly thinned at the many available bars.
