I know there’s a forum for boat reviews, but this info goes with other parts of our trip report, and pertains to a specific boat and charter company in the BVI. So ...

From July 23 – Aug 6 2003 we were aboard Snow Goose, a 1999 Hunter 42’ CC loaded with toys – generator, 110V, microwave oven, air conditioning, TV/VCR/CD with speakers throughout, autopilot, GPS, and even radar – all in very good condition. Quiet and energetic 50 horse engine that easily did 6.5 kts, sustained. Electric windlass and halyard winch. Very stable on tack – we could point 60 deg to the wind and let go of the wheel. Large comfortable main salon with leather upholstery. Palatial and well ventilated aft cabin with endless storage (there may still be things of ours stored on board). Well appointed galley & good fridge. Great sundeck over the aft cabin, stern rail seats, and a great combination of storage, water entry, and shower on the stern. Cool looking winged keel, and a big Danforth/fluke anchor that never failed to hold. Many strong positives about the boat!

A few relatively minor downsides, though. It has a Bergstrom & Ridder fractional rig – I’m not sure what all that means exactly, but the most obvious characteristics are that it has swept back spreaders and no backstay, so we could forget about using the main sail going downwind; it just wasn’t helpful. Single-line reefing – sounds good in principle, but too likely to tangle when bringing the sail down for my tastes. Very small cockpit table – 2 person max. Less than 6 inches of back support in the cockpit – no place to sit & relax topside without bringing cushions up from the salon and leaning against instruments in the archway. Surprisingly loud creaking when it rolls at night.

Conch Charters had the boat in great shape and ready with shore power on and air conditioning running when we arrived (never used the A/C after that first night, though). Before departing they replaced a pair of banged up binoculars with a pair that was like new, and provided exactly the type of dinghy we requested. En route, they fixed a fouled knotmeter and replaced an empty LP tank. All in all, a fine boat that Conch made available to us for 2 weeks at a great price. Photos available in our trip report, pt 2.
