La Plantation Trip Report
Day1+2 Fly days-- Phoenix red eye to Newark (not enough sleep on plane) then Newark to SXM. We were met by Lesley Bruce of Kenny’s Car Rental and Craig of Pack Light and quickly got our chairs and Car signed up and we were off to Orient Beach through the rush hour in Marigot. We checked in to out room at La Plantation which was large, clean, well appointed and had a good view of the water. We move in and went for a walk on the beach to get oriented. We ate in the Hotel for dinner – very good meal and crashed.
Day3 Marigot We ate our free breakfast by the pool (Note new word <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/Laugh.gif" alt="" /> – A” Freegan” is a person who always eats the free meals ) and went to the Match in Marigot to stock up on food and drinks and hit the Market at the Harbor. We used the free chairs and umbrellas compliments of La Plantation at Coco’s by the Rocks in the afternoon. Best dinner of the trip at L’Alabama in Grand Case that night.
Day4 Sand Gravity we spent the whole day at Club O. Deb who had said in the weeks before that she was definitely not going to go nude on the trip was out of her suit in less than five minutes. We had a great lunch a Baywatch then back to the chairs. For dinner we went to the Lolo’s (Talk of the Town) in Grand Case and had great ribs and shrimp from the grill.
Day 5 Phillipsburg There was only one boat in port so we headed to Phillipsburg for a tourist day. We parked off Pond Fill Rd. near the Police Station and walked to Front St. We stopped at DK Gems and met Deepti and her brother –great people and a very pleasurable shopping experience; we bought more than we thought we would. At their recommendation we ate lunch at the Kangaroo Court next to the courthouse (good sandwiches). Bought trinkets and Guava berry rum to take back home.
Day 6 Happy Bay We packed a lunch and went to Marigot to the market for things we missed on the first attempt then to Friar’s Beach and over the hill to Happy Bay. Only two of three more people were on the beach at any given time. It is probably the most scenic beach on the island. We had two short rain storms -- lucky we had brought the umbrella over the hill with us. A stop at the beach bar on Friar’s restocked our fluids.
Dinner at Spiga in Grand Case was one of the best of the trip (best chocolate moose in the continent)
Day7 Butterfly Farm 9:00 tour of Butterfly Farm very informative and interesting. We took lots of good butterfly Pictures (take a close up lens and a flash) Club O for the rest of the day basking in the sun with a break for a second great lunch at Baywatch.
Day 8 Isle de Pinel Took the ferry to Pinel for the Day-- $5.00 per person . We walked to the isolated beaches. Facing the Atlantic (East) the beach on right side of the hill had lots of Flotsam and was not as nice as the one on the left side of the hill. We spent the day on the left beach where the clothing was optional. Dinner at La Plantation lobster special night where we split a One Kilo grilled lobster.
Day8 Cupecoy Back to the other side of the island for more exploration. Played a little at the Casino Royal -- Ate lunch at Hot Tomatoes. Cupecoy had BIG waves and all the chairs –10 or 12 --were stuck up to the wall in a line trying to stay dry. We sunned and wave watched for a while then drove back to La Plantation to pack for our room move for the last night. Dinner was another great meal at a good price at Bistro Caraibes in Grand Case. On Tuesdays the main Street was closed to Car Traffic and there was a “Street Fair”. All the parking was in lots away from town (like the airport) and there was shuttle service provided
Day 9 Tiko Tiko The highlight of the trip was the nude day sail from Club O to Tintemarre. This is a must do trip. We explored the island, had a mud bath, had a great lunch with a great group of people. Overall a super day.
Day10 Last Day Checked our bags at Continental at 10:00 paid the departure tax and gave the chairs back to Craig. We went to the Sunset Beach Bar for Beer and Lunch. Off to Newark only one hour late. 85 when we left and 9 degrees when we got to Newark for our overnight at the Marriott airport hotel – It was cold !
