Red Hook is full of private moorings and the only areas to anchor would be closer to the entrance of the anchorage where the swells from the ferries will knock you silly if your not used to it. AYH would be your best bet or maybe your instructor has or knows someone who will rent you a mooring, otherwise grab a NP mooring outside Cruz Bay and commute to Red Hook by ferry.
