Hi all -
Just got back from two weeks on Anegada and thought I would give a little report.
Things are generally great, though for the past three days and for perhaps the next three, there is a big blow out of the N and NE, gusts of 30 mph and higher. The seas are very rough on the Atlantic side and there is considerable sand blasting if you sit out there.
Of course, this is a passing condition, but the high winds have resulted in a very quiet island with few boats at Setting Point these past few days. I'm hopeful that it clears up sufficiently for the Dark and Stormy race from Tortola to Anegada this weekend --- and for the great festivities at Neptune's Treasure.
On the other hand, earlier in our stay the weather was truly perfect for February. And business was brisk on the island with (I counted) 60 boats in the harbor. For my eyes this was an all-time record. Every restaurant did well that night. It was on Wednesday, so I guess a large flottilla was there. But still !!!!
We did have a wonderful day-long visit from TTOL regular VeeBee from VeeGee (Virgin Gorda) and 7 of her guests/companions from the Guavaberry/Spring Bay area. Lunched at Big Bamboo. Hung around Lavenda Breeze, until their flight back to Virgin Gorda. Wonderful day.
I wanted to report that the Iguana project on Anegada is doing very nicely. They have about 30 juveniles (perhaps more) in their caged head-start program. Many have been released into the wild, tagged and with location transmitters implanted in them. The ones released are doing well. The juveniles are now a foot long or so and growing until they, too, can be released. With some luck the scientists from the States and the local participants in this project will get the iguanas back to recovery and out of endangered species status.
If anyone is interested in contributing financially to this scientific research and saving the indigenous Anegada iguanas, I can direct you to where to contribute. Contact me thru email or message board here. The scientists need money to travel from Fort Worth, TX to Anegada to continue their work, etc.
Well, that's all for now. If specific questions, send me an email.
