The notions that there is "fear mongering" and "well, *I'm* vaccinated" are exactly the problem that Dr. Walensky is warning about.
Too many people in general, and state governors in particular have apparently decided that the pandemic is over and there is no longer anything to worry about. However the amount of the population of the US which is fully vaccinated is still small, and the amount of the rest of the planet even smaller.
While the vaccines offer near 100% protection against severe illness, they're offering only about 90% against infection. We don't yet know if it's possible to be infected after vaccination and be contagious. And if you can be infected, you're possibly contributing to the mutation and production of new strains. There is ZERO guarantee that this thing can't/won't mutate into something that is resistant or totally unaffected by the vaccination. So being immunized is very important, and everyone who can, should. However at this time taking precautions to protect yourself and others is also STILL important. And if Dr. Walensky needs to fear-monger people into better behavior, so be it.
In the mean time, we also have to beat back conspiracy theories regarding a Vaccine Passport, which is utterly ludicrous. I get where Dr. Walensky is coming from!
Stay safe folks!
