I can't say that I have any sympathy for them. Maybe being stuck in Mexico for awhile will give them a much-needed dose of reality.

They were described as mostly Quebec reality TV stars and "influencers". IME, referring to someone as an "influencer" is often just a polite way to describe someone who is self-impressed, overly-entitled, and generally too-cool-by-half. Maybe this incident might help them to understand that not only do the rules apply to them, too, but there are generally consequences for stupid actions. It's potentially a good life lesson in growing up, instead of acting like a**es!

Many of them are under investigation here at home for multiple violations of Transport Canada rules. While it is ultimately the pilot's call, he and the airline are also being heavily criticized for the very reason you raise. Why was the plane not returned back to Canada once the behaviour was noticed? There is also some question as to whether there was any attempt to control or caution the partiers on the part of the flight crew. This will be interesting to follow.
