Knowing we will be moving on for another 11 days makes it a little easier to leave Robin, Glenford and this awesome villa. Our villa mates certainly enjoyed the restaurants and just chilling out by the pool Not sure if they will be returning next year as one of their parents is 92 and did the I need attention thing They also have special needs pets which they paid $1500 for a caretaker for the week Hopefully they will join us again but we have already inquired if they would accept only one couple in the 3 bedroom Villa Robin the housekeeper said she would tell the Villa owner to invite us back and some rental is better than none as we are the last renters for a couple of months
Although we thought we had solved the next door Villa dog from visiting us (he was gone for over a day) decided to visit us while we were in the pool scaring an iguana who jumped over my wife and into the pool We all jumped out like Jaws Just keeping our comedy of errors for the week interesting
Our final night for Grand Case was Bistro Caraibes requesting a table under ac or a fan. Thibault took great care of us as usual helping both couples pick out lobsters just over 3 pounds each, half grilled, half thermidor Last year we chose a 4 pounder and it was just to big for the two of us I went out of my usual and enjoyed a deep rich onion soup while my wife had the house smoked salmon which was probably better than mine My friend said his foie gras and lobster thermidor were the best he ever had
We made a good choice on how to complete our one week culinary journey for our friends
We did have the customary ginger rum shots before moving up the street to Le Pressoir who invited us back to finish our degustation dessert since we had to leave the night before because of my wife's heat flash or whatever hit her Since being named the best Caribbean restaurant by Caribbean Journal they have been much busier
We adore Milaure who is so caring and attentive while her husband Gil helps tend the front of the house My dessert companion checked out the rum tasting room connected to the restaurant and selected an new Appleton select rum to round out the night while I polished off a aged port While the pasty chef is young, she should have a great future
My wife who loves cheese more than chocolate, finished with the 7 course tasting with the house made brie with truffle, My tasting dessert tasted like a banana cream pie topped with meringue, while not chocolate, I was satisficed, they did offer me a chance to make any choice off of the dessert menu
Our table mates ordered the creme brulee and a tropical dessert than was similar to sorbet
For our first week of fine dining Le Pressoir was without a doubt our favorite maybe followed by Mario's Bistrot
We have checked into Royal Islander La Plage into a unit 2 doors down from unit since they are added days and were offered to stay put since the room is empty next week While we love our unit, this one has full view of the pool and ocean with now palm trees obstructed the view
We plan on spending most nights on the Dutch side with the exception of Les Galets on Saturday Although we might wing it, future meals include Altro, Sunday jazz brunch at Rendezvous, Cambuci (new in Porto Cupecoy) , Jai's, Bamboo House, Jax, Sublime, Little Jerusalem, Pizza Italy (heard they were good and casual), Isola for pizza and maybe Spaghetti house and Emilio's. Think we got a few open nights to fill Our first experience at the Palms did not win us over, Sale e Pepe (although scattered service) is on vacation, Palapa Grill had good meats but ended there
