Just returned from a week stay at the sugarmill. Service, food, accomodations and location were absolutely outstanding. The food is not cheap tho but in my opinion is pretty much worth it. The sugarmill is conveniently located between two great beaches, smuggler's cove and brewers. We returned home yesterday and I must say we were not ready. The weather was pretty much excellent except for a few rain squalls. My wife and I did not seem to get bitten or more likely did not react to mosquito bites. Unfortunately the children had more than a few bites but they didnt seem to mind too much. Im easily annoyed by bugs and I wasnt bothered at all. the hotel provides snorkelling gear free of charge which was really nice. We bought the adventure pack and so had a daysail( we chose the witesquall II because it fit our sked). They also offer other well known daysails. A rental vehicle comes with the package and I would highly recommend this. Let me address the service again. One of the reasons we chose the Sugarmill was because we heard the service was great. I live in the New York metro area and am used to restaraunts in the city giving you a time that you have to be out by..and I generally have the "I want it now attitude". You will not get the east caost quick response but the service is relaxed, friendly and attentive. The service here was much better that the other places we ate at during our stay. We did eat at another restaraunt Cappricio's (sp) which I would also highly recommend. It doesnt look like much but the food and service there was also excellent. It is located on the west side of roadtown just to the left of Pussers Pub. There is a little fruit smoothy stand run by a local woman which is diagonal to Cappricio's and is near the outdoor market. I would also recommmend this. On the way to the hotel from the airport I would suggest taking the northern route to the hotel. Much more scenic and you avoid the shock of the kindof rundown and unkempt buildings near roadtown. The area that the sugarmill is located is much nicer so if you do go through roadtown to get to it dont let the shanty buildings worry you...the rooms at the sugarmill are simple but very nice. dont get me wrong its not the ritz carlton but I found myself just as comfortable. My only critisism is that the hotel/restaraunt does not present the bills after you eat they merely assign it to your room. I would kindof like to see what the bill is at the end of each meal...sign off on it and then have it posted to the room. I found them to be very honest but knowing the price of the meals would have made me feel more comfortable. they do have very reasonably priced wines on their list that are not Parker 90 and above but are nonetheless excellent and priced very fairly. Also, every monday the owners Jeff and Jinx Morgan have an open bar cocktail hour which is a very nice touch. The other guests that stay there are also extremely friendly so dont be surprised if people just come over to your table to chat or even join you. Islands restaraunt is the less formal restaraunt. we found the service and food there to be excellent. feel free to email me at rod3@home.com if you have any other questions. One other thing the breaksfasts were outstanding. The omlets croissants and the flying fish are highly recommended. Surprisingly the filet mignon when on the menu is first rate. As good as Sparks, Keenes, Lugers etc etc. Damn I hate the thoughts of returning to work tomorrow.
