Low key trip with some interesting highlights
FLIGHTS: Continental from Newar- Down- packed flight last row- no reclining seats
Good News- Only one hour from touchdown from last row through immigration, baggage, car rental-UNity, cell phone rental- Sharon to snacking at the Peg Leg
Return Flight- Don't get this one- Flight only half full, strong headwinds. Pilot puts us down in Atlantic City, NJ, 20 min from Newark to take on more fuel. SAys plane was weight restricted due to length of SXM runway therefore didn't top out fuel-Huh?? What do the 747's and oher big planes do??
ACCOMMODATIONS: One nights at Sonesta Maho then a week a Pelican Gess what: Maho night was the night of the fire. Other posts on this subject had it right- Electrical Panel fire on 5th floor- we were on- FIFTH floor- bang, lights go out-no fire alarm, smoke, hotel employee says everything is ok, next thing we know fire dept is banging at door. Don't get back in till late- they relocated us to other building- no lights in Main building till next day- were providing candles to go up to rooms. Yous US flipphone makes for a great flashlight
. Luckily only 1 bag in room for one night stay here.
Pelican- old and dated- people were complaining about rooms although nice pools
MEALS: Great meals at La Gondola, La Rosa, Hideaway x 2, Lobster at Pegleg
Tried Zee Best for B'fast based on this board- WOW
OK meals at Pineapple Pete's, Los Gauchos
Mediocre Lunch at Taloula Mango's in P'burg. 2nd year in a row we tried it- both times no good
Rosies for lunch at Mullet: Awesome, except all of you people have made a crowd there <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />. Last SAturday was the busiest we've seen it
OTHER: Used to like Atlantis casino- do the $10 match which we'd use on the slots then cash out and play $5 B'jack. THey've cut out half the tables now and no $5 B'jack. Casino Royale's drink service has gone downhill also. I'm not a big gambler but it's gone downhill in these 2 places.
WEATHER: Rain took out a couple of mornings causing me to go shopping in P'burg- not on my own volition
Last Friday was very windy- we did the Golden Eagle trip arouns the Island which didn't make it to the Atlantic side because of the winds- very rough
FINALLY: the best part of the trip was meeting new people, Kathy and Mike from Western PA who were fairly new to SXM and didn't have a car. We got to show them some of our favorite places on the friendly island
