[Linked Image][Linked Image][Linked Image]
Hey folks!
We just got back from our honeymoon on Tortolla and wanted to thank all of you in advance for all the great information you provided in making our honeymoon perfect!
We stayed at Frenchmans Cay Resort and it was exactly what we were looking for, we arrived on 10/29
and took the ferry from St. Thomas. The last ferry was on Smiths Ferry and I found it too be a little claustophobic after 20 minutes, we were enclosed and all I could smell was the diesel fuel. I was much happier when we touched land. We took a quick 5 minute cab ride to the resort and Pam met us at the entrance with our keys to our Villa. Pam was friendly, we rarely saw much of her husband Terry. We didnt
have our jeep rental that day so we walked to Jolly Roger for our 1st pain killer and chicken roti. It was fabulous.
The villas were a lot closer than I imagined but they were very clean and private, we loved our deck, we were out there every morning and evening, watching either the sun rise or set. The tradewinds kept our villa nice and cool. Our first evening however, the winds were high and we thought we were in the midst of a hurricane, but the rest of the week the winds died down. Our villa looked right out onto the ocean and the sun rose brightly every morning at 6:30 a.m. We didnt mind, anything was better than the cold in Boston! We went with a package plan that included meals, use of snorkeling equipment, and jeep rental. The meals were fair, we mostly had only breakfasts there, had dinner one night there but decided to explore other options. They do make a great Baileys Banana Colada though and I could have lived off of those! We visited Brewers Bay on Tuesday and it was absolutely gorgeous, we were the only ones on the beach that day and we loved it. The water was calm and wonderful, we swam all day. We had dinner at the famous Sugar Mill and I understand why everyone raves about it; the food, service, and atmosphere is incredible, our waiter Lennox was faboulous, Mark had the parmesean snapper and I had stuffed duck. We loved it so much we went there for our last night too! On Wednesday, we headed for the ferry to Jost Van Dyke, but it was broken down, so a kind gentleman let us hop on his small 2 seater boat and took us to the island, come to find out when we visited White Bay, the driver of our boat was the bartender at Soggy Dollar Bar! We chatted with him over some burgers and had a great time. The boat leaving for Tortolla at 3:30 was broken down so we hung out with a few others watching the turtles soar in the water. No worries for us being on "island time!".
Thursday we headed out to Vigin Gorda to see the baths, the full moon was in full swing, the swells were high and the water was rough. We got there and were worried about snorkeling. We saw a couple trying to swim to shore from their dinghy, they got caught in the current and were stuck in the rocks, Mark ran to help them, it was a scary sight, the girl got out fine, but her husband was pretty banged up, Mark helped him to safety. We decided after experiencing that, that we would just go through the baths and go to lunch up at the Top of The Baths and hang out by the pool. Thursday night we had cocktails & dinner at Lime and Mango at the Treasure Isle Hotel in RoadTown, we made happy hour and our bartender, Nelson made the BEST painkillers! We took a nap and prepared ourselves for the full moon party at Bombas, that was an experience! i couldnt get over all the people there and wondered where they came from, since we never saw anyone during the day! we didnt try the mushroom tea, but had the bomba punch and danced to the great reggae band. Friday and Saturdays weather was cloudy with hazy sun, the swells were still rough at the beaches (probably due to the full moon) so we snorkeled around Frenchmans Cay resort for a while, didnt see a lot of fish, but it was the first time for me, so i enjoyed it nontheless. We checked out smugglers cove but the swells were to high to enjoy ourselves, what a drive that was to get there, thankfully we had a jeep but i was still tossed around a bit with that dirt road! Saturday night we headed to Quitos Gazebo for Chicken Roti and to listen to his band. I bought a CD at the store and saw him at the bar, we got to talking to him a bit before he went on and he signed our CD for us. What a kind and modest man he is. Sunday was bright sun and blue skies, we watched the sunrise, and headed to Josiah's Bay for the day, the sea was calmer and there was plenty of sand to lay our weary heads to enjoy the sun. There were a lot of surfers appearing around noon time to ride the waves. What a great way to spend your weekend, wouldnt you say! We headed back to reality on Monday, leaving for St. Thomas at 10:00 a.m.
from West End, we didnt run into any problems with customs or the flights being delayed, which we were truly thankful for. But I must confirm with most of the folks on this board, PLEASE LEAVE 2 HOURS PRIOR TO YOUR DEPARTURE! the lines at customs were long but moved at a good pace, the 2 hour window gave us just enough time to sit down and relax for a 1/2 hour before boarding our flight.

We are counting the days until we can get there again!

Edited by Administrator on 12/10/01 02:59 PM.
