Daily Herald story Could be quite a destination, when finished!

Looks like an interesting project, but I have to wonder if the Caribbean really needs a multi-million dollar horse racing center. Is there that much demand? Maybe. I guess someone thinks so.

I get the impression the whole project is aimed at the Asian market. I wondered about the horse aspect of it also. I don't know a darn thing about it, but isn't it pretty warm in the Caribbean for such a project involving horses, unless they are totally local horses??

It looks like the project will be located south of Savannes and adjacent to the airport, on the windward side of the island. Having a safe marina as part of the design might make it attractive for sailors wanting to visit this part of St. Lucia since Vieux Fort is not a recommended anchorage. Hopefully the project will make it financially and help St. Lucia with their tourism marketing.

Hmm... Here's some more about the investors. The governor of the USVI has been off in China begging for money, too. I guess the logic is to go where the money is.But I do not have a big picture of Chinese tourists coming to the Caribbean.The culture shock would be too great.

I don't know if culture shock would be the big problem or just the distance. I mean, if you are in China, and want to visit islands, there are all kinds of them around the Pacific. Why would you fly to the other side of the world to experience what is right there in your quadrant already? That's the fundamental reason why my wife and I--living in Florida--visit the Caribbean regularly, but almost never go to Indonesia or the South Pacific.

I'm just not seeing the logic behind this project. Still, it's pretty certain that SOMEONE will pocket a boat-load of money, and I'm sure that's the whole idea anyway.
