Short and Sweet trip report May 15 thru May 23

Air Travel: Delta no issues at all. 3 of 4 legs on time or early. On the way down, the Atlanta to Sxm leg was delayed because Atlanta Airport closed main runway at 10 am for an inspection about 40 minute delay. No issues at all airports.

Rental Car: Used Michael from Unity, a really pleasure to deal with. Quick pick up and quick drop off. He also point out that I did not need collision coverage as my credit card covered it. He is a straight shooter.

Cell Phone rental: Used Sharon from Queen of St Martin. Phone was ready, whole transaction took 5 minutes and drop off was less.

Club Orient: Staff friendliness has increased in the 8 years we have been going; we don’t think it could be any better. The front desk, the store, the security and restaurant staff went out of it way to be helpful. We stayed in 49, it was freshly painted, new appliances and a new electronic safe.

One night on the way back to Club O about 10pm we observed some suspicious activity on the dirty road leading to Club O and we stopped at the guard shack. To my surprise the security guard came out and was very interested and concerned. He took our information and immediately called the Gendarmes. I don’t know if they responded but at least the Security guard did his part.

Met some new friends and saw some old ones. I got to say that the people on the Club O beach have to be some of the friendliest people in the world.

They are putting in a paved concrete road on the road that goes to Club O. That had about 500 feet done already. I have no idea on how far they are going to go with the concrete.

Peggy’s and Paul Nude Cruise: Great Fun, great people. This year we went around the whole island. Some of those houses around the ocean are fabulous. Stop a couple of times for swimming and had a nice lunch at Happy Bay. Snorkeled once, nice spot. This year was not for the faint hearted, unusually rough seas but only on the one side of the island. Paul knows his boat and never once felt unsafe. The best part we didn’t play any of Peggy’s word games (Just kidding Peggy <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />). A definite for next year.

Crime: Never once did we feel unsafe. There were some major incidents on the island when we were there. A jewelry store on Front Street was held up at gun point with 11 tourist involved and some other armed hold ups. I would have thought after that we would see a heavy police presents on Front St, went 3 days after the hold up and NO police at all.

Jewelry Store: Majesty, Steve and Charlie are the best.

Meals:

Lunches

Papagoyors: Very good lunches and good service. (We like the dress code too)

Andy and Cheryl’s: Excellent food. My wife loves the mussels and I had the best pasta fagoili soup I ever had and trust me I love soup so I can tell. The whole staff is a pleasure. A little pricey.

Buccaneer Beach Bar: First time definitely not our last. Great food and view.

Burger King: Fulfilled long held dream, went to the Burger King with the drive thru on the passenger side of vehicle.

Dinners:
Tutta Pasta: Our favorite!!! Small, friendly place, great food. No steaks or fish just pasta but lots of variety.

Yvette’s: First time at this restaurant, Small Island feel, looks like someone’s home and the food taste like they made it just for you. Couch stew was very good and I had a steak which was tender and cooked to perfection.

Pineapple Pete’s: Good food, great service and you can count on its consistencee. They had a nice musician.

The Wharf: First time, last time. Food below average. Felt sorry for the musician only 6 people in the whole restaurant. Advertised 1 lb lobster combos but smallest lobster they had was 2.5 lbs and you pay by the pound.

Another great trip. Thanks Jim and Mary from Caribbean island travel. Already booked for next year.
