This was our 16th trip to SXM and we stayed in Grand Case at the Atlantide. We have seen most everything so we kind of go just to relax and do as little as possible. The weather was great, the people were as nice as ever, and the island looked great. We rented a Toyota Corolla from Safari and paid $210 for 8 days. We walked to the bakery every morning to get our croisants and bread which we eat on our balconey overlooking the ocean with Anguilla in sight. Most of our days were spent at Rouge Beach and late afternoons were spent in front of our hotel on the beach in Grand Case with a cold Carib in hand. Lunches were at Chez Raymond with Sammy our waiter. What a character. We went to St. Barts one day and left from Oyster Bay which is closer and was supposed to take just 45 minutes. Unfortunately the day we went the waves were quite high and rough and it took 1 hour and 15 minutes. But nobody got sick and we rented a jeep with another couple and toured the island. The ride home with the wind was only 45 minutes. We ate at Little France and Restaurant Sole and both meals were excellent. Of course our favorite places are the ribs with a couple of cold Caribs at the Talk of the Town where we ate twice and the Italian food at Portofino where we ate 3 times. I had read in an earlier trip report that the owner whose name I cannot spell got hurt in a motorcycle accident. I asked him how he was and he said to let everbody know that he is fine and so is the donkey. Apparently he hit a donkey that wandered across the road. Anyway I promised him I would bring him back a Harley shirt from New Jersey when I return in November. I also met an old friend there and had drinks at the Sunset Beach Bar. He than took us to a restaurant in Sandy Ground called La Santal which was quite expensive and was not as good as the restaurants I have eaten at in Grand Case. At night when we walk in Grand Case as we pass the remains of the original Surf Club South we say that we wish it was still there and that it used to be such a great place to close out the evening. Everybody's luggage and carry ons were opened and checked at the SXM airport. Well like I said we went there to relax and that is what we did.
