We just returned from 8 days at Sorobon Beach Resort on Bonaire. SBR is on Lac Bay on the windward side of Bonaire, but the bay itself is protected by a reef and the water is only 2-3 feet deep in most of the bay. From SBR you can walk about a 1/2 mile out to the reef for some very fine snorkelling.

SBR is CO, but you are required to be nude on the beach. The chalets, which have 2 units each, are only a few steps from the beach, so shier folk can sun on the chalet porches. There are 32 units total. The beach is private, so there are no gawkers like on Orient. But not a large beach, so strolls are short. Also there are no motorized vehicle on Lac Bay, which is nice. There are dozens and dozens of windsurfers. Some of the windsurfers are experts and it is fun to watch them do tricks with their boards. The windsurf shop next door offers lessons and the shallowness of the bay makes it an easy place to learn.

SBR has a restaurant and bar, but no grocery. They do have almost daily bus rides into the main town of Kralendijk, so you can get to the grocery store that way. We rented a car, mainly to see the island and to visit the other great snorkel spots on the island.

Bonaire is a big diving haven, so if you dive, well, you've probably already been there!

We ate some meals at the SBR restaurant, which is so-so, but has a nice non-dress code. [Linked Image] The restaurants in town are better. I generally ordered fish and was pleased. Mona Lisa in the center of Kralendijk was our favorite restaurant.

SBR had visitors mostly from the US and Holland while we were there. Bonaire is a little tricky to get to, but they are expanding the fueling facilities at the airport, so I epxect more direct flights will be available in the future.

Not much nightlife at SBR. There are a couple of casinos at other resorts. If you enjoy windsurfing, diving, or snorkelling, I would recommend SBR and Bonaire.
