Saturday, Day 8 cont.

Got the ferry over to Road Town and was met by the representative from D&D Car Rental (his name begins with a D and I can’t for the life of me, remember his name). He packed up our luggage and brought us to the rental agency to fill out the necessary papers with Veronica, pick up the car, (a new model Montero) and escorted us to Smuggler’s View Villa. D&D was excellent. I highly recommend them. After leaving our incredible villa on VG, I had low expectations of our accommodations at Smuggler’s Cove. Boy, was I surprised! The villa was beautiful. It was so unique with all the little nooks and crannies that only an antique home has. Was I surprised to find out that it was only 20 years old! It has such charming character. Cynthia Rose is very helpful and successfully makes you feel right at home. She also does chef services, but we were a bit low on cash by the time we got to Tortola and were unable to use her services. It was too early for us to check in but we were able to leave our bags and go exploring the island. I was a bit apprehensive about driving on Tortola, but I am very glad we did. My brother was on a quest for mushrooms so we went up to Sky world (What a view!). I thought I had seen everything when bro saw a cow pasture. My nerves! He and his girl got out of the car, found a stick and started flipping the “mounds” if you know what I mean. I wish I had taken a picture of that. Back to the villa and walked to the beach (5 min. walk). Smuggler’s Cove is beautiful. I can’t get over all the beaches I have seen in the BVI. Each has it’s own personality, but all are beautiful. It’s incredible. Why it has taken me this long to find such a place is beyond me. Anyway, we cook for ourselves that night, sent Matt out for charcoal and he comes back with Bomba’s punch with a personal warning from Bomba not to drink more than 3 glasses. Well, Matt being such a big guy, thinks he can take more than three…….. He was on his 4th glass (not even finished mind you) and the room began to spin. Bye bye Matty!!! Arrivderche, Ciao for now!!! The next day he goes to visit Bomba again (this time for shrooms) “BIG DOG” Bomba cries out when he sees my brother, “how was the punch?” I don’t remember, was Matt’s answer. Bomba cracked up then rewarded “Big Dog” with a treat, MUSHROOMS!! Bomba came thru and Big Dog is forever in his debt. Matt offered me and my husband some, but no thanks. Been there, done that. I don’t think my head could handle that stuff today. Matt and his girl had a great time! They brought some light sticks from home and went out to the beach to put on a light show. It was pretty cool.

The next day we went to the beach at 9 AM. There was a big mound in the sand that we did not recall from the day before. Some guy came up to us and told us that a 6 foot leather back turtle had laid some 200 eggs there the night before. He was sleeping in the bar on the beach (the one with the continental parked in it) when he woke up and found this phenomenon happening. He said it took about 2 hours for the whole process. The environmentalists came after he called to check out the situation and said that it would be about 6 weeks before they hatch, but there was no need to worry about disturbing the site because the eggs are buried rather deep.

That night we went to the Elms on CGB for their bar-b-que. It was sooo good. We then stopped off at Bomba’s for a drink then went home and hung out. Last full day was rather non eventful. Hung at beach from 8 am till 6 pm. Went to Soper’s Hole. Isn’t it pretty there? Watched the sunset from Pusser’s with hot wings (great!) and a nice tropical drink to take the heat away, then drove over to Jolly Rogers, had pizza (not too bad). The next morning D&D car rep was at West end to meet us. Left Tortola on the 10 am ferry, got to STT at 11 AM, got thru customs w/no problems. Had to change planes in San Juan which was very smooth, to my surprise, and got to Boston at 9:15.
