I would say paddleboard is more fun and more versatile. Aside from being able to paddle around and explore you can also try to surf the swell/waves if there are any. We even brought a ski toe rope on our last charter and had people "paddleski" behind the boat on light wind days. If it's windy I think it is easier to get blown away on a paddleboard versus a kayak - particularly if you are new to paddleboarding. My wife can attest to that as that almost happened to her at the Bight. Maybe one of each?

Agreed. In fact that's what we're doing in July. We'll have 4 grandkids along, ages 7-13. We're getting a two-person kayak and a SUP that can be converted to a one-person kayak with a seat and different paddle.

Our kids prefer paddleboards (ages 8 - 16). With six kids aboard (two families) we go with three paddle boards. We find the kids will often double or triple up on the board.
Cheers,

We chose paddleboards for our 2 girls (11 and 13) and I also took a ski rope for skiing behind the dinghy. We will have lifelong memories of them doing tricks on the board in front of Soggy after everyone left. Of course, we had to pull in for drinks every 20 to 30 minutes. We rented all our gear from Chris at BVI SUP and he was great. They have really nice equipment and he spent as much time on the phone giving me advice as I needed. He has great customer service skills. He even ordered a few beach chairs for us, since I couldn't find anyone on the island that rents them. I talked to him the other day and he says they are renting fairly regularly (he as 6 now and 200+ paddleboards). Here is the link to their website...

We took our kids down at the ages of 4 & 8 and they absolutely loved the Paddle Board over the kayak. At first we tied a long rope to the boat and paddle board so my 4 year old stayed within 100 feet but by day 3 she was all over the place. Loved it so much that we bought a paddle board once we got back. We actually rented two paddle boards for the week and one kayak but would do without the kayak if I had to chose one over the other.
