Returned from one of our many trips to the BVI, but had a way too long hiatus of 2 years. (Never Again !!)
As you all could probably confirm, every trip is different & always in a good way. (A reason to keep going back). This trip was probably the best trip we had thus far--due in part to the friends we had with us and mostly due to our experience with Walt & Ruth on Blue Bayou.
Here are the Highlights :
Weather: By far the worse we have experienced. Eight straight days of rain--of course not constant, but consistent & daily with mostly gray & overcast skies. Maybe one or two days we had that beautiful Caribbean Blue sky. Upside was multiple rainbows . The weather in no way stopped our good time.
Food:
The best food this trip was no doubt Ruthie's cooking on Blue Bayou. It was perfectly prepared, with great presentation & the most delicious we've ever had on a boat. Fresh fruit, granola, eggs (eggs McRuthie), bacon, breakfast tortilla wraps etc. Lunches included cheeseburgers in paradise, fresh gazpacho, fettucine carbonara alla Wally, homemade pizzas & more. She always thoughtfully had appetizers with our drinks for happy hour. One night we had sushi & saki !! Best dinners on shore were Leverick Restaurant followed by Bananakeets & the Fat Virgin. Bananakeets was highlighted by Reuben playing and a lovely visit with Candice & Malcom.
Itinerary:
Jost Van Dyk-Drinking painkillers & playing ring game at Soggy Dollar while attempting to stay dry. Dinner at Foxy's Bar-b-Q-our first time & it was very good.
Norman Island-Snorkeled the caves, weather too rough to snorkel the Indians. Happy hour drinks at the Willy T. Dinner at Pirates (very good) with dancing to an excellent Reggae band.
Virgin Gorda- Our first stopped were the baths-very good few hours of weather with good explorations of the Rocks. Spent the night at Leverick--as always one of our favorite stops. Said hello to Nick who was getting ready for the Dingy Poker Races.
Anegada--Enjoyed the beautiful beaches--only one torrential down pour--it was ok because it was time for us to start drinking anyway. Dinner was Lobster at Neptunes.
North Sound--Moored at Biras, wonderful dinner at the Fat Virgin. (one of our favs)
Marina Key--attempted to go to Scrub, but they were all full with the puerto rican navy, but Marina Joe invited us to dink over. Enjoyed the pool & swim up bar immensely. Also enjoyed the poolslide & the hot tub.
Blue Bayou--Our hosts for the week. Walt & Ruth could not have been better hosts. We felt like old friends very shortly after arriving on the boat. They thought of everything for a crewed charter, right down to the small details. They were so accommodating. They are very knowledgeable of the area and most of all ALOT of fun to be with. I cannot recommend them enough!! We will sail with them again--maybe looking at some time in December

Got a Caribbean Soul I can barely control and some Chesapeake Bay hidden here in my heart.
