My son is in St Martin now for the first time and is wanting to know where to get a good lobster meal. My wife and I have been to St Martin many times. She had a good lobster at Bistrot Caraibes this year, but the best lobster we use to get was at Harry's. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would say the best lobster dinner we've ever had was at l'astrolab located by Orient village. Their website is here. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the lobster specials.

Although a bit pricy since wife always gets the biggest ($85) Bistro Caribes is worth it for the flavor, picking your own out of the tank experience and wonderful service from Thimbault & Amuary.
For a more casual place, get the larger one (may have to ask)at Pineapple Pete's. I get the smaller one with a 8 oz. filet. Very reasonable priced.
Both are lobster thermidor.

We always have fun picking a big one from the pool at Skipjacks and sharing it.

Loved my 4 lb lobster at SkipJack's and every other one since although smaller. They have a variety of sizes although on some visits it was difficult getting anything smaller than 2.5 lbs.

Between the quality, waterside dining table and price I'd highly recommend.

I have to agree with Fabila, as you get your choice of Saba lobster or US lobster, varying sizes, and yes, waterfront seating is the best! Don't forget to ask for more garlic butter!

Antoine's or Chesterfield's are good bets.

IMHO, if you're looking for a great grilled island lobster, having tried hard to find the best one, I'd highly recommend Skipjacks for a great lobster in a lovely setting, with Lee's garlic basted grilled lobster being my plan B.

Lobster Thermidor is a whole different kind of lobster and for what it's worth and try as we might, I haven't found any that compares to Antoine's on Front Street.

And as for cold water lobster, I wouldn't waste my money on SXM but we're almost in lobster country up here and I'll have mine at home, thank you very much. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

We have only had lobster one time on Island, and since we can get cold water lobster was very unhappy with the meal. But of cource that's our opinion. We can get whole lobsters when on sale for under 6 dollors a pound, and we steam them ourselves to perfection... The Caribbean lobster is just tail, and have heard if its large, its tough.. Just us...

First, I will concede that we are in the minority but prefer Caribbean over Maine lobster. Before you beat us up, let me say that my sister in law lived in Maine for a number of years and we had lots of fresh lobster there and when they brought it to us in PA. Some SXM restaurants have ignored my request for lobster without garlic, that I cannot have, since most folks prefer garlic with lobster. We have found Chesterfield's $40+ lobster to be our favorite when they have it.

Don't count us out here on Long Island...our Montauk lobsters will compete with the best of 'em! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />

If you try the grilled lobster at Lee's, do remember they baste it with melted garlic butter while cooking on the grill. Yummy if you like it but not so much if you don't enjoy garlic butter. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Capt. Oliver's has grilled lobster on their buffet. It is two nights a week, can't remember which days. We had it both nights while on our last trip to SXM. Would definitely do it again when we return.
