I am worried about both, with the way the wind clocked around to the west. Surge into Westend could have been huge. G

Bridge to Frenchmans Cay is gone. Have not heard from Island Jim or or Doc Howard who holed up in Howards place north side of Sopers. One report that 80% of CGB gone. Quito's no longer exist. Myetts roof gone. All of White Bay except Hendos and part of Soggy gone. Carrot Bay flooded. All boats sheltered in Paraquita in a big pile in the mangroves. Moorings dock in RT a total desaster. Village Cay Marina the same. Large cat up sideways on the TMM docks.
One piece of good news VHF radio report that Nick and Monica and the staff at Leverick are OK. Not so for the docks and most buildings. Not much else out of VG other than lost roofs.

Yeah, it is going to take a lot to recover. Having seen huge damage in Vermont after Irene, a number of businesses there just never recovered and are no more. I think a lot will depend on insurance coming through, if someone has it.

If you consider the many piece of scrap wood and pantys scattered all over Cappoons Bay I suppose you could say, in a manner of speaking, that Bombas still exist. In kit form.

Until further notice clearance at the West End ferry trminal will be "al fresco" as there is nothing left but the slab.

nobscusset said: Glenn, that is a jerkoff statement. You have no heart. Shame on you. BS Glenn is fine and on target to feeding the kids of Tortola. The less than welcoming feel on both ends of Tortola have harmed many. Anything less than a wide open hussle welcoming people and materials will not be in the best interest of the recovery and next generation. If you are worried about drugs a couple of small framed females and small talented canines can tell law enforcement who to follow up with. In 2018 never make a visitor wait between the time they land and the taxi. No forms, nothing

CGB said: I see nothing wrong with Glenn's quip I could share a few myself to lighten the mood.. except for concern of getting flamed like he just got.
All being said - via video from CBH... my place above the ferry terminal was on the video Sadly.. wind must have got under the 2nd floor balcony overhang - tore that off - taking half the roof with it
Let's see... are we allowed to pack hammers'n'saws in carry-on ? ((sigh)) I had a corkscrew confiscated by TSA a few weeks ago that I forgot was in carryon. We sat in first class where they gave me a 6 inch metal knife with lunch. Don't think your tools would pass.

nobscusset said: what the people on Tortola need right now is heavy equipment and construction workers to rebuild. I am a carpenter from New York and would throw my hat into the ring if I knew which hat to throw it into. Don't know what to do help out. Maybe give money. Glad you want to help! I will pile on. They need unlimited and unthreatened water. If that means bottles Walmart will do it better than anyone else. Then need basic food supply again Walmart. The debris must dissapear. Contractors and equipment. It must be gone to a new near shore reef or off the North Drop. Do it NOW. Then a cruise ship to house the help. Mr. Carpenter while there is talent on the islands and more that can learn... Massivw square meters of stripped blue toof must be laid. Only then can the long term recovery start: Food and Sheltee then we move forward just like any migrant in history.

I have spent 3 days searching for news of friends trappeed in a diaster of biblical proportion and seen to many pictures of the remains of places of which I have fond memories all the while in fear that a dear frind's home lo longer exist. If one cannot find a bit of humor in this chaos depression would be the result and at a time like this depression is our worst enemy.

I was in surgery (I am a surgeon) as eye of Irma went thru... we play music during surgery.. Me "Alexa, play "Eye of the Tiger" and "Alexa, order me "Gone with the Wind" After seeing boats(mine?) : "Alexa, play "Buy me a Boat"

On a serious note - all this volunteering has me thinking Chicken or egg situation... Where would the volunteers be housed ? Shelter is short for locals, much less do-good visitors Then there is food shortage, and have you noticed how many vehicles are destroyed.... Not sure how something like this plays out best Seems a bit of basic infrastructure must first come back before the volume of helping hands arrives

Probably a good thing... with a hammer in my hands... Likely start thinking the window is out of alignment.. and just a tiny tap should fix it...
