3/2/11 Wednesday
Kim and I decided to go to the market in Castries for breakfast so we grabbed a bus from out in front of the hotel. We spent some time walking around looking at the different stalls, as I pointed out the fruits and veggies she wasn’t familiar with. I had my saltfish and bakes, Kim just had bakes since she doesn’t like saltfish. We both had a cup of cocoa tea; however it wasn’t as good as what I had gotten in Gros Islet with trendy on the last trip. We walked around the market a little longer and picked up some homemade peanut brittle for the bus ride back to Rodney Bay. Took the shuttle down to the Bay Gardens Beach Resort, Kim’s legs are still sore form yesterday, and dropped our stuff off by the pool. We walked over to Happy Day bar and had some beers with Trendy. The bar gets a very nice breeze, Kim calls it the air conditioned bar, so we spent quite a bit of time there as we were roasted from yesterday. Went back to the resort and picked out a spot on the beach, the security guard checked to make sure we were from the Bay Gardens Inn, the towels are color coded, and then satisfied he positioned our chairs for us. We decided on an early dinner and tried out the new restaurant that opened below the Loft. It is called La Cassoll and the prices are reasonable especially for lunch. I had a chicken roti, it had some carrot, bell pepper and pickle in it besides the regular ingredients and was very good. Kim had a hamburger which left a little to be desired, as the patty was small and only covered half of the fresh roll. We split an order of fries, they were the standard frozen restaurant type. The bill was around $50 EC with tax and tip. We will probably go back with Dan and Em before the charter, but will only order the local dishes as that seems to be their strong suit. It was the manager’s cocktail party at the Bay Gardens Inn with free rum punch and entertainment. Mike called, he was on his way to Rodney Bay to have some Chinese food to celebrate the New Year. Kim and I walked down to Happy Day bar and were later joined by Mike, Trendy as usual was already there. Now before anyone thinks he just spends his day drinking at the bar, Trendy works the water taxi dock there, lining up water taxis and tours for tourist in order to make a little commission form the operator. We all headed down to Rehab and ran into some other friends. Had a few drinks there and said goodbye to those we probably won’t see until next year.
