.....I made the mistake of looking at my trip counter as I logged in!
Today I should have been on a plane heading to the island we've loved for over 44 years. This planned two week trip was to have been the anniversary of our very first trip to SXM and the beginning of a long love affair with our favorite island. It was also to have been the first time we've ever managed to squeeze in three trips in the same calendar year.
And instead, I sit here in my office doing paperwork, remembering and wishing...... And thinking of my daughter and SIL who are there instead surveying the damage to their recently purchased island get-away home.
Kudos to all who were brave enough to keep your trip plans and commiserations to others who, like us, decided this just wasn't the time to head there yet.
There was a time when 'a little hurricane damage' wouldn't have stopped us, and in fact, it didn't in years gone by, but those days are long ago. I now find myself wishing for another year to pass quickly so we can return to the island we so love.

Hopefully the island recovers and we can all go back and support the people as we have in the past.

We’re thinking the same thoughts and hoping for the same things. And beyond my personally selfish wants of just wanting to be comfortably back there, I hope people continue within their abilities and limitations to contribute to any of the numerous Island causes, be they for grocery coupons via Jeannie for as long as her program continues, or to the various animal welfare organizations and the many environmental organizations not to mention the personal and individual needs of so many on the Island who have helped us enjoy our Island time over so many years.

We would have still been on the island enjoying a 2 week stay and socializing with friends we only get to see once a year.

We would be leaving Monday for 2 weeks, but it's worse for all the residents and hopefully they will never have to go through such a terrible storm again!

We also were leaving Monday for two weeks. It would have been nice to be there for Perch Lite's opening and music. But, at the same time looking around and remembering how the area was, it surely would have made us sad.
I'm going where the weather suits my clothes.
