There is nothing quite like waking up in the Tobago Cays, even with the number of yachts at anchor there this year, it is still idyllic. We had made arrangements with Mr. Fabulous to give us a ride to Petit Tabac for 25EC, it was a lot easier than trying to motor over on Skyelark with her 2.3 metre draft.

On Petit Tabac

This was the first time I had been to the island, and you could get the feel of what it was like to stranded there like Capt. Jack Sparrow (although we couldn’t find the rum). The remains of a Russian space craft was washed up on shore, it had been there a while we were told.

After walking around for a while we went snorkeling, the water was as clear as glass, and there were many small colorful fish among the reef. We returned to the boat and headed off the Chatham Bay on Union Island, which will be two new stops for me in one day. The bay is absolutely wonderful, much better than the harbor at Clifton except there are no services just a few rustic beach bars and one nice Italian restaurant. There was a boat on the rocks at the south end of the bay, its mooring had let loose in last Thursdays high winds. We needed a few supplies so we hiked up over the hill to Ashton, it was a tough walk up the trail but well worth the views from the other side of the island.

The view from the hill

Being boxing Day just about everything was closed, but we found some rum and then stopped for ice cream cones at a small shop. Having had our exercise for the day we took a taxi back over the hill and then walked down the dirt road back to the bay. We stopped by a small bar for some liquid refreshments only to find that Capt. Mark and Sanctuary had been there before us, you just never know where those TTOL’ers will turn up.

Following in the footsteps of greatness

Dinner was onboard, BBQ’d chicken and some minced lamb and beef kabobs, with Em’s fantastic yam salad as a side. Afterwards we enjoyed some sundowners in the cockpit and of course the magnificence of the night sky far from and shore lights. Tony is really enjoying this trip, he owns a painting business and is going almost 24/7 at home, he was ready for a break and I am glad to have been able to recommend this one to him.
