We had planned to spend the day at Petit Carenage in Windward today; we stopped there when we visited Carriacou on Skyelark a couple years ago. The beach at the end of the Mangrove Trail isvery deserted and we wanted to have a private picnic lunch. The weather refused to cooperate however and it rained most of the day. By mid-morning I had enough of sitting around the room so I grabbed the umbrella and headed to the beach. The rain was light and warm so I didn’t mind getting a little wet. There are a lot of machinapple (sp) trees mixed in with the almond trees that line the beach so be careful to avoid standing under them when it is raining. After spending some time picking up sea glass (my new hobby) I stopped at a little bar, La Playa, for a drink. They had fresh ginger beer so I had a glass of that with some dark rum. After a while I went back to the room to get Kim as the rain was slowing down and I knew she was getting hungry. We decided to take the bus to Tyrell Bay and have an early dinner. It was still a little rainy but not too bad so we walked down the road to check out the restaurants, however the ones we inquired at didn’t start serving dinner till later so we had a drink at the waterfront bar with the dingy dock and grabbed another bus back to Hillsborough.

The driver took the long way around as he had to drop off some school children and pick up some fares that had called for him. One lady was somewhat angry that it took him so long to come to get her and let him know it, it may have been his wife or a relative because he kept trying to explain his delay but his words fell on deaf ears, the daily goings on of island life. We ended up back at the Jerk Center and each had a jerk pork dinner, accompanied by green fig salad, rice and peas, and garden salad; with a beer, a coke and the tip it was 42 EC ($16US). We took a walk down the beach in the dark and looked at the stars for a while then went to LaPlaya for some nightcaps. I tried their rum punch and it was different than any I’ve ever had, it seemed to spiced with cinnamon rather than nutmeg, tasted like a spiced cider not bad. Kim had what has become her standby on this trip, fresh passion fruit juice and Absolut. We chatted with an Englih couple that were getting ready for their first bareboat charter through the Grenadines so we gave them some advice on places to stop and things to do. Back at the hotel it we hung out on the balcony, Kim reading and me doing my report and surfing the internet.
