Our taxi arrived on time and we headed off to the ferry dock in the Carenage at St. Georges for our trip to Carriacou, and the start of the next part of our vacation. The ferry ride was a little rough and some people had seasickness, but Kim and I were fine. We arrived in Carriacou and walked down to Ade’s Dream where we would be staying. I was a little nervous about the hotel, being that the price was so cheap ($60 US for a self-catering studio) and it is located above a supermarket. Once we went back to the reception area my fears were relieved, the hotel is very lovely, much more so than you would think by looking at the outside. Each room has a private balcony and there are a few common balconys all very nicely kept. The one in the front of the building is much bigger than it looks from down below. After dropping off our things we went next door to the Jerk Center restaurant for lunch. They had a menu board with about 5 offerings, all 15 EC, we opted for the jerk chicken which was served with rice and a salad. The ample portions of chicken were nicely cooked and mildly seasoned, a very nice choice.

After lunch we stocked up on some beer and rum for the room and then took the bus to Paradise Beach, there was a Canadian couple on the bus that are renting a house for a few months and they directed us to the hotel we wanted to look at for next year. A couple we met through TA, had recommended the Sunset Beach Hotel so we wanted to check it out. The Paradise Beach area is just wonderful, a small bay with a narrow tree lined beach, and Sandy Island is just offshore.

It isn’t built up much, but no where on Carriacou is, there are a couple bars and small hotels/guesthouses. For most of the afternoon we were the only ones on the beach. The hotel has a small bar and restaurant on the beach, so we had a couple drinks then headed for the sun. While we were lying there a local fisherman landed his boat ashore, he had a sack of nice sized (2-3 lb) lobsters along with a barracuda and some puffer fish. My mind was working overtime thinking how we could cook them in our room, but since boiling them wouldn’t have done them justice we passed. After the sun started to set we headed back down the beach for a sundowner at a small beach bar near the end (can’t remember the name).

All in all it was a very idilic place and we are looking forward to staying there next year if we can. We took another bus back to town, and although the town was pretty lively (tomorrow is a holiday) we sat out on the balcony and called it an early night.

Thanks to everyone who have enjoyed the reports! Here is a link to the finish of one of the final races of the workboat regatta, I tried to capture the crowds enthusiasm as best I could.
