We had breakfast at the hotel today, since the dining room has been converted to rooms they now serve it to you on the balcony outside your room. As usual everything was fine and it was nice to have a whole pot of coffee to myself. One breakfast is included in the cost of your stay so that makes it even better. After breakfast I took the bus to the yacht club to drop off some meat that I had brought for our charter on Skyelark next week.

An old dock on a quite portion of the beach

We walked down the beach to the Workboat Regatta and staked out our spot between two large almond trees. There was quite a crowd there, as today is the day of the final races. The starts were much smoother than yesterday, however the high gusty winds still caused some capsizes and rigging failures. Kim spent the day soaking up the sun, while I grazed at the many food stands, I even tried some aloe pie sort of a puree filled turnover. The crew from Skyelark settled down near us, they wanted to see some more of the races before sailing off to St. Lucia later in the afternoon. I kick myself for not having checked with Dan to see what his schedule was before booking our side trip to Carriacou tomorrow, had I known they would be in Grenada we would have skipped Carriacou and hitched a ride with them. But water under the bridge now, and we will enjoy exploring the island as we had only been there on overnight stops with the boat.

The crowd lines up for the finals

The crowd really gets worked up during the final races and everyone is cheering on their town or parish, the winners are swamped by supporters when they cross the finish line. I noticed last year that for the finals match everyone is given new sails sponsored by an insurance company, I would guess to even out the playing field.

My favorite, but I always liked the underdogs.

After the races were over we settled our bill since we would be catching the morning ferry and leaving early. We took the bus up to the spiceland mall roundabout and then walked to Umbrellas from there to have dinner and watch the superbowl. We started with an appetizer of Carraicou Love Bits (fish fingers with a dipping sauce, Kim had a hug club sandwich served on very fresh bread, I went with the umbrella burger, we added an order of fires (large enough for two), some Santa Fe Jalapeno dipping sauce (very spicy), and a rum drink for me and tap water for Kim (95 EC) with tax and tip. We left shortly after halftime and grabbed the bus back to the hotel where we enjoyed sitting on the balcony for our last night in Grenada.
