Spent two days at Haulover last week while in South Florida. Observations:

Not much different from past visits. The weather the first day was a little iffy. When we arrived, the beach was relatively crowded for a Friday (much more so then a weekday during the summer season) As soon as we arrived the sky began to blacken and then came the monsoon. It lasted for about 15 minutes. A lot of people left but a majority of us waited out the downpoor. The weather our second day, Saturday, was clear and sunny. Just perfect. Even larger crowd that day due to it being a weekend. We arrived about 10:30 and the parking lot was filling up. I am sure by about 1pm, it was full.

Besides the regulars that we seem to see everytime we visit, there appeared to be a lot of vacationers, tourists and people down for the season. Noticed several groups of French Canadians. Haulover seems to be a big draw for them during the cold winter months in Cananda. Normally on the non-gay section of the beach you will see a majority of single men. Not the case this time. I would guess that is was 50% men and woman, mostly couples. Quite a few more single women then we usually see.

I strongly advise you arrive early in the morning. From about 9am till 1pm it was/is less hectic, less crowded and much more peaceful. The majority of the people are there to enjoy the beach and its tranquility-au-naturel. By about 2pm the beach became wall to wall people. This also seems to be the time the gawkers and some of the other undesireables show up. This is about the time my wife and I decide to leave. And that's ok as we have had enough sun and sand by then.

All in all we enjoyed our visit as usual. Even with a few drawbacks, Haulover is a great beach and probably unmatched anywhere in the US. It is a great alternative to having to travel to the Caribbean or Europe for a c/o beach. Miami is quite accessable. And the numerous hotels and restaurants of South Beach are just 20 minutes down the road. A great weekend get away if you live in the mid west or east coast.

That's it for now.
