We are bareboating next week and have friends to pick up at Beef Island. Their flight gets in late in the afternoon. We want to pick them up at Trellis and are wondering about the conditions there post Irma. Are there mooring balls, underwater hazards, or anything to be concerned about? We would probably have to spend the night there after pickup. Also, is anything open there?

Trellis Bay Market is open, as is the bar to the left of it (from the water). There are moorings, although I don’t know if they’ve been checked. There are some liveaboards, fewer than pre-Irma, and some of their boats are obviously hurricane survivors (barely). There are underwater hazards, although some cleaning was done. The Last Resort is a wreck, and rumor says not rebuilding. Their dock was the first repaired, but it is rented out to ferries from several of the out islands.

Another option would be to stay at Scrub and take their ferry over to meet your friends.

You should have no problem picking your friends up at Trellis as long as you dingy over to the dock - the ferries are not there all the time.

Dinghies should use the market (floating) dock or the inside of the government (concrete) dock. If you leave your boat on the Last Resort (wooden) dock while you walk to the airport, you are asking for an argument. That dock is clearly marked, and there is a lot of traffic, particularly in the late afternoon.

If you’re on a monohull drop anchor or grab a mooring the docks on shore can’t handle more then a 4 foot draft
