After recovering from my return to snowy Massachusetts, I am ready to give you a report on 12 wonderful days on St. Martin. Although we have previously travelled 20 times to the Caribbean, we finally got around to SXM, and are we sorry we waited so long.

We flew out of Providence RI on US Air to Charlotte. Normally, we go down through a Philly connecting flight to one of the islands. We were about 35 minutes late leaving Charlotte and we unable to get that back, our return trip was very late and we had to rush through customs in Charlotte and barely made our flight to Providence.
We stayed at the Maho Beach Resort. Maho is a beautiful hotel in an area loaded with things to do and places to eat. We stayed in the low-rise portion of the hotel on the first floor next to the smaller pool. The grounds, pools, and beach were immaculate, as was the room. The only complaint we had about the hotel was the all-nite (11 PM to 4 AM) music from Bliss and Bamboo Bernies which floats across the small bay throughout the night, if you are a light sleeper and you happen to wake up you are through for the nite. If you stay at Maho be sure to request a room on the back side of the tower overlooking the Lagoon or Mullet Bay. Food at the hotel was way overpriced so we only ate there a couple of times. The period we were there the hotel was luckly to be about 40% of capacity or less.
We went to the following beaches..Maho Bay, Simpson Bay, Dawn, Orient, Friars Bay, Happy Bay, Baie Rouge, Baie Longue, Cupecoy and Mullet. Our favorites being Dawn, Orient and Friars. We ate ate many beach bars our favorite being Ms B's on Dawn. Also enjoyed Chez Raymond and Kali's as well as Bikini Beach and Sunset Beach Bar.
We dined for dinner at many places throughout the Island, Tropicana, Indianas, Peg Leg, Hot Tomatoes, Bliss, Boathouse, and Greenhouse to name a few. We liked Boathouse and Hot Tomatoes the best.
Breakfast was also a treat in SXM, we ate at l'Croisanteire, Zee Best, Ric's and Cafe Atlantico, Mary's Boon, and Pasagranhan, as well as Indians Breakfast On The Beach.
Because we are beachbums, the only thing other than hit the beach that we did was a day trip on the Edge to St. Barths. This was one of the best places we have ever been to. But......bring plent of money. Lunch at St. Jeanne Beach was around $25 for two Carib's and a Tuna Sand and a Hot Dog. Had a great tourguide named Yankee 32. On this tour we met two new couples the Kasten's from New Jersey and the Yahner's from Columbus, Ohio. we all had a great time.
We spent some time at Marigot walking among the shops and restaurants, and did the same in Philippsburg.
We took everyone's advice and rented our car from Tropicana, Mickey was everything we had heard and then some. Practically new car with 3m miles on it. We had no difficulty exploring the island of SXM, main roads and signage were very good.
Did we enjoy ourselves? You bet.....we are planning to return this summer for a couple of weeks.
