We are returning to OB, first time post Irma after 17 years in a row at Club O. Is it advisable to walk on the beach without shoes? I know it is beautiful, but I would think there would have to be some debris either in the ocean and/or on the beach. Thank you for your help.

The only debris there is what's left by beach visitors. Called litter.

Walked barefoot two weeks ago from Orient village to Club O, no debris at all. Swam from Club O to Green Caye island and did not see any debris on the bottom. If you decide to explore the damage at Club O, wear shoes, lot of broken glass pieces around there

The accepted policy is as long if it's before 9 am you can walk along orient w/o shoes. After that it's only allowed in the area that used to be Club Orient

Just spent two weeks, most of it on Orient. Didn't come across any debris, didn't wear water shoes. It was gorgeous as always.

Wow. I walked the beach at least 3 times last April barefoot and had no issues.

How was the reef at the NW end of Green Caye? I posted a video on you tube several years ago where the reef had healty sea fans. Just search using Chilton Orient SXM. Just would like to knowhow much damage to the reef by Irma.

In October, the coral in that area was quite healthy -- it's a beautiful stretch of coral. The water was somewhat murky on the days we snorkeled there, but the coral was in great shape.

The beach is still lovely, but all the devastation made me very sad. It was always my happy place!
