So, we also bought some toppers rhum in the big bottles which was a pain to pack with our ma dou dou. Basically a whole checked bag for of rum and padding clothes.

But they sell and we bought as gifts some smaller bottles which are carry on and great for gifts. And yep duty free liquour stays in your hand carry thru TSA pre screening in Charlotte. No you cant take a 3.x oz bottle of water or coke but you can take duty free liquour. Figure that out.

Mandou dou comes in some little bottles, maybe they are under the 3.4oz limit.

Are you talking about liquor bought in duty free in Charlotte? That's always been the case, that you could carry it on, if it's sealed at the time of purchase at duty free. Or are you talking about stuff bought in SXM??

No, we bought it at Toppers Distillery near ACE hardware. They said Just throw it in your carry on for security at PJ and in CLT, ATL, wherever you connect.

And it worked.

Huh. I always thought that you had to put it in a checked bag, once you arrived in the US, unless it was sealed by TSA? And this is over 3 ounces??

Evidently, not if it is 3.4oz or less of duty free liquor which the artisan craft stuff is.

Its Toppers Rhum in the sealed smaller bottles. We were skeptical but the TSA guy in CLT was saying to a gent ahead of us remove all liquid drinks except duty free spirits. We had six of them in one bag.

OK, specifically, this is what it says..

"Duty Free Liquids: You may carry more than 3.4 oz or 100 ml of duty free liquids in secure, tamper–evident bags in your carry-on bag if:
The duty free liquids were purchased internationally and you are traveling to the United States with a connecting flight.
The liquids are packed in a transparent, secure, tamper-evident bag by the retailer and do not show signs of tampering when presented to TSA for screening.
The original receipt for the liquids is present and the purchase was made within 48 hours."

So, Toppers puts them in a sealed bag??

No, they are under 3.4oz bottles. Like shampoo. No nothing. You are as surprised as we were. But they are closer to 3.4 as opposed to the mini airline liquour bottles on their service carts.

I think he did. The bottles aren’t small and they have the stopper top on them like the big ones. Very convenient for gifts and sampling.

Yes. As long as they are 3.4 or under you can take as many through tsa in your carryon as long as they all fit in one see through quart size bag. Nothing new.

The typical liquor min-bottle, called Nips in Bahston and "airplane bottles" elsewhere, is 50ml, or 1.7oz. The TSA limit is 3.4 ounces, so the L'il Toppers are the equivalent of 2 Nips.

I remember the days when South Carolina was a mini-bottle state. Every drink in every bar was poured out of a mini-bottle.

I remember that too. First trip driving from Boston to Florida we stopped at South of the Border to by fireworks and then stayed in Hardeeville. Went out for dinner and experienced the nips. Cops showed up later for the light show with booms.
