Just returned from a 12 night stay and wanted to say thanks for all the great suggestions from this board that made the trip a memorable one. This was our 4th trip to the BVI's in the last 7 years.
Arrived on June 24th for a 4 night stay on Peter Island w/our 2 daughters. First time there and we really enjoyed it! Beachfront Juniorsuite was spacious and accomodating, food fantastic and beach was gorgeous! Service could use some polishing. A lot of the staff had a "no can do attitude" which was frustrating considering the prices they charge. We were the only family there w/kids--90% honeymooners w/a few "older" couples.
Left on the PI ferry back to Beef Island for the ferry to VG. Thanks to a ttol suggestion we met ms penguin at the dock w/several frozen meals. Ran into the Trellis Bay market and bought 4 copies of the "Drinking Mans Guide to the BVI's". No one on Peter Island that we asked herad of it so I was happy I found it before we headed out.
We met up w/8 other family members and were heading to the villa "Beach Dreams" on Mahoe Bay. The setting was just glorious but the furnishings of the villa were early salvation army. Most of the time there were spent snorking in some of the best coral gardens right off the beach and lazing around the pool. Clarkie Mortom a local chef cooked and served 4 fantastic dinners for our group right on the pation of the villa.
One day we rented a 28foot speed boat at Leverick Bay to cruise the North Sound. Had fun snorkling off Mosquito island and Prickley Pear. Had lunch at Saba Rock w/stops for drinks at the Fat Virgin, Sand Box Bar, and BEYC. Had a good time trying to use up coupons in our Drinking mand guide book.
Hit the Baths on a day w/no cruise ship passengers and it was delightful. Of course lunch at "Top of The Baths" and a swim at Spring Bay completed a great day.
On another day our group ferried over to Tortola where we met up with Robin the captain of the cat "Kuralu" at Village Cay for a day charter. Sailed along the coast of Tortola to JVD where we visited the Soggy Dollar (coupons) and Foxy's (more coupons). Kids had a great time jumping off the water trampoline in White Bay. Next time would live to spend the night at Sand Castle so we can have more time on JVD especially to see the nightlife at Foxy's.
Restaurants on VG are still a little disappointing. Not much there and it was pretty dead the week we were there (6/28-7/6)
Dinner at Giorgio's Table was great but very expensive. Walked there in the dark at high tide along Mahoe Bay--LOL! Kids ordered frozen virgin drinks at $8 a pop and bowls of ice cream at $9. Their $15.00 pizza dinners were almost as much as ours. Dinner on July 4th at the Mine Shaft was fun until we started to sing "God Bless America" and were immediatley met w/strains of "God Save the Queen" Hope we didn't ruin our relations w/Britian due to our political blunder.
Dinner another night at the "Flying Iguana" was good and more reasonably priced but we were the only ones in the place. Lunch at the Beach Grill on Little Dix Bay was very tasty.
Pre ordered provisions from Bucks Market in Spanishtown and they delivered on time. Got most of our liquor from RTW including giant cans of Coco Lopex etc. for our Pain Killers.
For the trip home we ended up chartering a ferry ride from Speedys to get to Beef Island because the scheduled times didn't work for us. The airport was a zoo---and I thought the old place was bad. Just about every AE flight to SJ was cancelled or delayed for hours. Theye were telling people they weren't getting home and putting them up in hotels. We spent from 10:30 in the morning until 3:30 before we were able to get out. We were one of the lucky ones. Made our connection to Chicago w/ 5 minutes to spare and then flew into major storms!
Overall one of our better trips and family members who have never been to the BVI"s before said it was the best trip they have ever taken.
