We're planning a trip to Italy and are looking at flights. It seems delta has the best prices and times for us. We would love to fly business class but it really is too high for us. Does anyone know anything about the economy comfort seats? How much more are they ,and is it worth it? Any air help would be appreciated. We're flying JFK to Rome, and return will probably be Venice to JFK. thanks.

I haven't flown in premium economy on Delta, but have on United and found the extra room on the transatlantic flight to be worth the extra cost.

You can view the Delta seat map by entering the flight number on:

As Irish has suggested, take a look at seat guru for your plane, and you'll get an idea. For what it's worth, we just flew to Rome on US Airways and, like you, just couldn't spring for the business class fare. We were surprised at how much legroom we had in economy. I think they don't cram as many seats into those planes that are making the longer hauls. We weren't uncomfortable at all. Again, that's US, not Delta, so your mileage may vary...

Suggestion: Before paying for premium economy, phone Delta international reservations and ask about the online booking process. Specifically, does Delta offer an upgrade to premium economy for $ after you have booked an economy ticket online? I have done this on United and found the cost to be less than if I initially booked the premium economy seats.

Thanks. Gayka we are planning a trip to Tuscany and will be taking the cooking course at the tuscan women cook. We were planning on going next years but we are trying to go this October. We really enjoyed your trip report and hope we enjoy it as much as you. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We have never been to Italy so we are a bit nervous about getting around. it will be an adventure. Anon Ellie

Ellie, Tuscan Women Cook is an absolutely fabulous experience! Even with the horrific weather we experienced last month, it was without a doubt my favorite vacation to date. I do understand the nerves about getting around, as I had those too. Send me a pm about your plans, and I'll do whatever I can to help alleviate the anxiety!

a really good tip if you're going to be taking cabs is to grab a business card from your hotel front desk when you leave in the morning, that way when you're ready to return all you need do is show the cab driver the card (saves trying to explain/language barriers/misunderstangings), worked very well for us all over Italy, never once had any trouble returning to "base" at the end of a long day. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Groovin.gif" alt="" />
