Hi all...

Has anyone done the trip to EIS vis SJU with Seaborne? How was the service and overall impression of Seaborne?

Thank you very much.

They now operate as Silver Airways. We have used them and will be doing so again this season. They seemed to be a reasonably good operation.

Flew with Seaborne SJU/EIS R/T last May. Flight from SJU was on time. Flight from EIS was delayed a couple hours. We stay overnight in San Juan anyway, so no problem for us. Others missed their connection and since it was the last flight, probably had to fly out the next day.

There are good and bad stories about all of the sju eis scheduled carriers.

It seems that it about $100 cheaper if I book separately with American then with Silver, as opposed to purchase both tickets thru AA only... Have you guys experienced the same?

It maybe cheaper but you take on the risk if you miss your connection. You will have to retrieve your bags at sju and get in line at seaborne to checkin. plus clear security and pay again for your bags.

Might not be a bargain.

Not just pay again for your bags, but pay again for flights and maybe hotel.

We use Seaborne often and with few problems. Once they left EIS late, we missed our connection and they paid for the hotel.

And... Seaborne makes schedule changes from time to time, so booking a codeshare route is a big advantage (changes on one airline allow you to make no fee changes on the other). We have had a good experience with Seaborne over the past 3 years - other than the schedule changes that typically happen close to the season you are traveling in.

Curious, how much time should I give to allow to catch connecting flight from San juan to back home (west jet to Toronto)? Seabourne has a flight arriving in San juan at 12:15 with my connecting flight leaving SJ is at 15:00. Is 2:45 hours sufficient? It will Not be a code share and will have to book separate so wondering if I should take the ealry morning flight...

That should be fine, particularly if it's a non-holiday weekday.

You will be okay if seaborne is not late - West Jet is not very forgiving if you are late checking in - if you have no luggage you will be fine - I Would check your time on the return leg as we will be taking west jet back on the 24th and our flight departs SJU at 16:00 not 15:00 - cheers Brian

We just returned to California last night after 10 days of sailing and used Seaborne from SJU-EIS and the return. Communication with Seaborne this summer was spotty at best as they continually changed our flight times.

Flight out was fine, no issues, our check in yesterday was incredibly slow and we were the 3rd group in line, the agent said they’ve just gotten a new computer system. Lo and behold, we’re sitting on the plane and see a luggage cart with our bags on it driving away... get to San Juan and are told the first 7 bags checked in didn’t get put on the flight due to weight issues...paperwork was filled out and upon our arrival in Sacramento last night had United check to see if the bags ever made it to San Juan and were put on a United flight to SMF...not yet. I’ll keep an open mind about getting our luggage back.
One couple on the bus to the plane on the flight out said this was only the 3rd trip in 10 where their Seaborne flight actually went off as planned

Sometimes the baggage handlers in SJU don’t have time to check all the luggage for donations. They have to set those aside to check after the flight departs.

George, while that was a problem at one time, we haven't had issues lately. You are much closer to the pulse on air travel for sure, but I wonder if that was chiefly an American thing.

I would agree that the theft issues we had were all on AA in SJU. There was once however a TV special where they showed video of baggage handlers going to work and from work for all airlines. Nothing going to work being carried. Leaving work most had full garbage sacks in their hands. Could only happen if airport security looked the other way. JFK seems to have similar issues that come and go but not as brazen as SJU. What was really interesting in SJU was how they managed to steal out of carryon bags on the ATR’s where you handed the bag over at the aircraft to go in the front of the aircraft. Found out later they were searching the bags in the hold where they kept a empty bag and transferred stuff to the empty bag to be removed later.
Nothing valuable should be placed in checked bags!
