We went to Chesterfield’s yesterday about 2 for a nice lunch. When we pulled in, the parking gates were up and no one was there to give us a ticket. So we assumed that it was closed for a Monday. When we were leaving about 3:30 the attendant was there. She accused us of losing our ticket and her pink haired “supervisor” stepped out and said we owed $20 if we lost our ticket. My husband was LIVID. The attendant did say that she had gone to the bathroom, but again accused us of losing the ticket. We said you were NOT here to give us a ticket..thus we paid the $20 and she opened the gate. She accused us of lying that she had given us a ticket. Crooked and corrupt....the parking attendant and her pink haired supervisor. BEWARE. My husband told them to call the police, but they wouldn’t. Has anyone else been ripped off like this? Have to say after 20 plus years of visiting SXM, we have been fortunate to not have experienced anything like this before.
Not to the extent you were taken advantage of but earlier this year there was a little miscalculation of the time. Once I questioned it she did adjust the price but we had a ticket.
A scam I bet they pull all the time. I think I would have gone back into Chesterfields and asked them to help fix it as they must have some say in that parking lot. Sometimes a local person can help reason with another local. But I think the restaurant needs to know what happening..... if they don't already as I would never go back if that kind of hassle is what I had waiting. To bad a few dishonest locals can leave such a sour bad impression.
I would have insisted they call the police but talking to Chesterfields would have been done in addition to that. Would be nice if Chesterfields would validate parking for patrons.
Yes. We have been to Chersterfields sooo many times through the years and it was nice when they would validate...but that is gone like you said since Irma. We never ever hastle about anything. We just go about our business.. but Dave was so angry when she flat out lied and said she gave us a ticket. So..do you think we should we go back and tell them at Chesterfields? Dave wishes he would have pulled out his phone and videoed them..hindsight. And..had we waited for police, we think it would have taken a long time. There are so many worse things that can happen. But this really ticked us off. Thank you for listening to our rant.
Would be nice if Chesterfields would validate parking for patrons.
They used to do just that, at least for 2 hours but that practice stopped after Irma.
Time to bring it back and this episode might want to make them restart it. But then again you would have to have a ticket to get validated which was the issue.
I would still talk to Chesterfields and bring this to their attention. As much as I think this may have been an isolated experience if others had such and experience it could eventually affect others not wanting to return. If it was my business I would want to know so as to take action it doesn't happen again. If Chesterfields in the past had a validation agreement in the past they should know who to talk to to correct this.
Where exactly is this parking lot? I want to make sure we avoid it! I'm guessing it is on the Dutch side, so probably not much of a concern to us as we mainly stay on the French side but we would still like to know where it is located. Thanks.

It is the parking lot near Chesterfields restaurant, a cheese shop and some boat tours depart from the area also. It is on the road heading toward the cruise terminal in Philipsburg, so yes, it is on the Dutch side.
Likewise. Chesterfields has always been one of our favorite breakfast spots in town, always parking in this lot, and we have NEVER had any problems. I would hope this is but one very isolated incident but personally speaking, even if after the fact, I would let the restaurant know what happened and that it is being discussed on line.

Can never find Chesterfields. How far is it to walk from there to the main shops and do you actually also pay a parking fee. Wouldn’t mind having breakfast then doing some shopping but always have problems parking and usually park at the Greenhouse but they don’t do breakfast.
It is towards the pier from Greenhouse and it is walkable to downtown. Maybe 3-5minutes from Chesterfield's to Greenhouse. Parking is somewhere around $1/hour. The lot behind the courthouse was charging $1/hour but the first hour was more, maybe $2.
I want to make a clarification here in case there is any confusion as I received a note from a local resident regarding ownership of the lot in question.
Even though the lot is situated basically in front of Chesterfield's Restaurant, they do NOT own it nor do they control it. It is owned by Dock Maarten and I will post a link below to their contact information. Perhaps the OP can contact them to get some resolve to the issue.
