We've been looking at flights from North Carolina to SXM for a couple of weeks now, and the fares have been outrageous (as in $2,000+ for a one-way business class seat). Today we were able to book round trip, business class, seats for a little over $1,700 each. Just a heads up that it might be a good time to look... Edited to add that this is on AA.

And, was this for weekend flights? Those are always higher priced. An option to consider for the future is driving to Atlanta and check flights to SXM from ATL. Sometimes the cost to drive to another airport and use Park/Sleep & Fly will be less than your closest airport. A few years back we had flight reservations from our hometown through PHL to SXM with American. Three weeks before departure they called and flat out cancelled the first flight to PHL. AA offered totally unreasonable alternatives which we refused and eventually cancelled at a full refund. We then searched around and booked Delta from Buffalo thru Atlanta to SXM with total flight savings of about $300. We had to drive 100 miles to BUF airport and stay overnight at an airport hotel with an airport shuttle, but when I added everything up (gas, hotel, food), we were still $100 better off than the original costs with AA.

We had looked at various days of the week, but these flights, which we're happy with, are on a Saturday going and a Friday coming home. ATL is a ten-hour drive for us; that's not happening. We already drive two hours to get to Raleigh, which is the nearest airport with reliable flights. We used to drive 4 1/2 hours to CLT for a non-stop, but now we just drive to Raleigh, spend the nights both before and after the flight. It's not easy to get there from here, lol.

Your profile says "eastern NC." Not sure if you are in the northern part of the state; however, Richmond has always been good to us in terms of pricing.

Ten hours ... wow. I wouldn't drive that far either! Four hours would be (and still is) my limit. So much for my idea if you guys are from Greenville, Fayetteville, or Wilmington. Maybe Bip's advice above with Richmond is an alternative. It is frustrating with such high prices that the airlines charge these days.

GaKaye,
Much as I love SXM, and you know that I do........., I think I’d stay home before I paid that much for plane tix. Even for Business Class.

We booked our premium cabin seats, extra room, from November 28th through December 12th for $781 each. We are flying from Wilmington, NC through Charlotte.

We just paid $670 pp to go home from SXM in big seats in December. Working on going down, AA was $1200 plus for desirable flights. Will probably fly bigs on Alaska to JFK and spend the night at TWA and then down on JB. Still searching for a better option but coach sucks and if at all possible I try to limit my time in those seats.
Posting as I wait for my flight to Orange County CA. Cheers!
I prefer the Isle seat

Oh, for some of YOUR FF mileage accumulation.
We got lucky on our April flights - only paid $750.00 total for both of our seats to SXM in those big seats and then JB home on FF tix. But we do have to connect going down but it could be worse since we’re able to fly from our regional airport and we don’t have to deal with JFK, at least not going to SXM.

We're about 3 hours from RIC; we actually lived there when we first started flying to SXM. I'll have to look at flights from there next time we're getting ready to book.

We went in May in 2018, and the prices were much less than November. Our timeshare weeks include Thanksgiving, so the prices are always a bit more then.

We always have to connect unless we drive to CLT, so we're used to that. As far as the FF miles, AA makes it next to impossible to use them, at least to SXM. We're going to have to do some domestic traveling soon, lol.

Todd, unreal that our flights, which are a much shorter distance than yours, were almost three times as much! And we were happy with that price! It's hard to understand the airlines' pricing strategies.

Its a value proposition.
We have always had empty seats to stretch in coach and the flight not that long. 6 or 8 bucks for a drink and similar for a wrap.
I can go from ohio to frankfurt to tokyo and back for 1700 in coach on air canada and lufthansa.
But im cheap.
If i had the dough Id charter a Gulstream V nonstop to SXM.

Cheers! I just got a return in early December for $597. Going down in late October, I paid $970 several weeks ago, which I thought was bad until I checked a couple of days ago and saw the $1,200 you are seeing. But with RT being in the $1,9xx - $2,2xx range, it could be worse. Overnights involved both ways.

Not ALL of us! lol We pay whatever it takes to get to SXM. If I could swim I would as long as we get there. What I'm concerned about is our Switzerland flight scheduled on that MAX.

Yep, we do too, and after our last trip we both agreed that we wouldn't fly coach any more. When is your Switzerland flight?

We just paid $637 for tickets from Las Vegas to SXM with a stop in Charlotte. That is the most we have ever paid.

GaKaye our Switzerland flight isn't until August and I had no worry but the way the Max date keeps getting pushed out I'm starting too worry.
DRich was that round trip for one ticket? Sounds like a great price.

We're flying RT from Richmond, via CLT, on American and returning on Jet Blue for about $450 each in July (Friday to the following Saturday). That's coach, but WTH. We can live in the cheap seats for 3 hours to enjoy a week in SXM.

Regardless, fares in July are much different than fares the week before Thanksgiving.
