BVI Sail About 2003
Another awesome sailing trip to the BVI
The Boat
Time Out
Voyage Charters
The crew
Bob AKA Number 1, my husband and helmsman, he loved that autopilot
Susan, lifetime friend of over 35 years, fellow galley wench and deck scrubber
Anthony AKA Ant our hired captain who quickly became our friend
Myself, Carole AKA Admiral, galley wench and deck scrubber
The vacation actually started in NYC. We were scheduled to fly out of Newark on Oct 18 at 930a. Since we live in CT we always stay at an airport hotel the night before. Bob works in Manhattan. So Sue and I met him at Grand Central about 530p Oct 17. We had a our first of many holiday cocktails at a restaurant across from the station. Then headed to The Bryant Park Grill for dinner. After dinner caught a cab, no easy feet on a rainy friday night, to Penn station to catch NJ transit to Newark airport.
We stayed at the Residence Inn for the evening which included a full breakfast. Always good since you never know what food you will get on the plane. Nice rooms with comfey beds but a restless night sleep. Way too excited.
The Continental flight was fine and on time.
"We're here, we're here" as we taxi to the terminal.
Luggage arrives in a timely manner and we taxi to the ferry.
In the confussion of deciding on a ferry one of my bags gets left on the taxi. It's the one with all my clothes. OH, NO. But have no fear. Everyone went out of their way to get my bag back. With a few prayers to St Anthony and everyone's help the taxi returns with my bag, Yeah. Time for another holiday cocktail. We to the upstairs bar. Very nice bartender.
We are finally on the ferry and on our way to the West End. Clear customs not a long wait. They were much more thorough then our last visit. Each of us had a least one bag opened and looked at. the Voyage rep was waiting for us to shuttle us to the Voyage office.
Annalees (sp?) at Voyage checked us in and was so nice and friendly. the accomodation was 2 rooms. A living space with a futon and a queen bad in the bedroom, A/C too. We settled in then went to peek at "Time Out". She looked beautiful.
Sue and I wondered through the stores. My husband heads to Pusser's for a cocktail. I join him later for Happy hour. Sue decides to take nap before dinner. It was great watching the sunset and anticipating the rest of our trip.
Since we will not stop at CGB during our trip. We opt to spend our evening there. Dinner at Myetts was great. Judy our waitress was wonderful. No island time service from her.
Quito's after dinner for dancing. A nice size crowd. Enough people to make it fun but plenty of places to sit.
Sailing day is here! Since the boat was ready to go we were able to board before the normal 12n time. Bob and I settle our stuff into the port cabin. Sue takes the starboard bow cabin and the captain in the starboard bow.
Our food arrives from Bobby's and get to work putting everything away. Captain Anthony, who goes by Ant but often had fun referring to himself as Capt'n Ron arrives too.
We were finally on our way. Deadman's Bay will be our first stop. Sue is first in the watert. This is Susan's first trip to the Caribbean. What a great place to have your first Caribbean swim. After a bit of lounging and swimming. We dinghying a shore for a cocktail. Rum drinks all around. They are not afraid to charge here.
We motor over to Cooper Islanf for the night. the great thing about the off season. No problem getting a mooring ball in the late afternoon. I prep dinner as we motored. Apricot marinaded chicken, cole slaw and spinach. We all know things can go wrong. We could not get the gas to work. the grill is propane too so no go there either. Dinner ashore for all.
The next morning Ant does get the propane going. All the caffeine addicts were happy, hot coffee for breakfast.
We do a short sail to Fallen Jersulem for snorkeling and lunch. It's a very pretty spot. Our evening stop will be Savanah Bay.
Well, that's it for now
To be continued
