TUESDAY, DAY 8 (PART 1 of 2, too many things happened!)
Side note, as I prepared to write today’s report I found my journal notes starting with “Day 9??” it’s a wonderful thing to lose track of dates and times while on vacation! I try to update my journal daily over morning coffee, mostly bullet form with highlights from the day before, but occasionally my cat scratch can ramble on and sometimes even I can’t decifer what the heck I was saying
We slept without the a/c again here at breezy Marina Cay, however I was up a couple times during the night closing hatches due to a couple of brief showers, then re-opening them when I noticed it stopped. Whenever I would close ours I would close the girls as well. Funny thing, in the morning one of the girls said she swore she had closed her hatch and later she woke and it was open, she said “weird” that’s our secret

Sunrise here was just so so, still overcast. We decided to top off the water before working our way towards Jost. There was already a cat at the Marina Cay dock and they positioned themselves dead center leaving no room for a second boat. A mono had already assumed second in line. We circled for more than 10 minutes and we couldn’t help but notice the mono growing impatient and moving into an intimidating position.

Maybe 10-15 minutes later we were waved in by the dock hands. We quickly relocated a couple fenders to the port side and Jim blindly eased into the shallow side of the dock, very good job Captain

The apparently frustrated mono continued to hover just feet away from this private charter cat. Now I could see why they were agitated! Not sure if the cat Captain realized, or cared, about what the mono perceived with them having a wonderfully relaxed sit down breakfast. After they finished topping off the water, which takes time, the captain excused himself from the breakfast table and then started his refuel.

With full water tanks, $8.10, we were soon on our way. We were really hoping to snorkel lovely Monkey Point, but with the number of boats around the area for the Full Moon Party who knows? “Positive Is How We Live”……..SCORE! Found a vacant ball, and to steal another phrase “Life Is Good!”

Still nursing a tender toe I decided to forego the use of fins and remain with the boat. Jim dinged the ladies in close to explore the underwater paradise that Monkey Point is known for.

I set up the noodle rope line and eased my butt into the clear water. As I floated with a cold Presidente in hand I could see with the naked eye an array of colorful fish swimming below me. I really like this spot. After an hour or so the ladies returned with glowing reports of abundant sea life. I sorely missed not snorkeling here this time After an exchange of I saw this and did you see that, the girls attention turned to the bimini for JUMPING! Hey, look at Mama getting into the action!!!

There appeared to be a boat waiting for their turn at this beautiful snorkel spot so we sailed off the ball. The sail along the beautiful North Shore of Tortola is always fun for me. Jim pointed Blue Moon in the direction of the King Fish Banks. We only gave the banks one pass and AGAIN the fish did not like my presentation I should have just read a good book!

After a couple of hours of really enjoyable sailing we were nearing Jost van Dyke. We spent our first night here, but in my opinion no BVI trip is complete without a stop at White Bay and Sydney's Peace and Love. As we approached the markers to White Bay we noticed a Moorings Cat not slowing down with its main sail up, apparently racing us in. Why do I think they were racing us in? Well, the field was packed with boats so balls would be limited and the fact that they pointed themselves into the wind to drop sails right between the channel markers was a pretty good sign They won by grabbing the last ball No biggie there was just enough room for Jim to anchor just in front of Gertrudes

Capt. Jim wisely decided to stay with the boat in the crowded anchorage. Everyone else loaded their phones, cameras etc into my handy OverBoard backpack. This is my second year with this backpack and it is priceless! Everyone out swam me into this beautiful beach. Even though the pack is waterproof, I still take care swimming in with it while still pulling off a Johnny Weismuller like backstroke

I lost sight of the girls, but had a very good idea where they would be, SOGGY DOLLAR BAR! The girls already had acquired the valuable plastic souvenir cups that perfumed the air with the scent of nutmeg. My daughter quickly reminded me that she had pre-purchased our first round back in March, cool!

This place is always a very fun stop. If you're looking for a place where everyone's always in a good mood and the drinks are flowing, well...."That's what I see when I see this bar!" KC! The girls of course went shopping, played ring toss and laid in hammocks etc. I always like talking to somebody and that lucky somebody on this trip would be Lookinatfifty and his crew. Here they are harassing folks back in Florida via the always watchful webcam! How 'bout a trip report??

When I told the girls what Lookinatfifty's crew was doing they sprang to their feet frantically trying to face time friends and assumed the position, me included!

Unfortunately...once I took these photo's my cameras battery died and I guess I had beer on the brain and left my fully charged spare on Blue Moon, dang it! I had intended to swim back to swap out batteries when I got a tap on the shoulder, hey it's Evan, Nina and Greg! We sat and talked with them for a while and I decided to put the camera away. It was really great to see you guys again! We wanted to make sure we secured a ball in Little Harbor so we bid sail2wind and family farewell til nextime and swam out to Blue Moon!
