I was curious if there has been any talk of proof of vaccination for admittance to the island. I work in education so I believe there is a possibility that I may be able to receive the vaccine sooner than later.

My wife also works in education and has much contact with college students and faculty. We are both hopeful that we'll get one of the vaccines the second half of January or early February, but state plans where we live are still not fully established. With three more manufacturers at the threshold of introducing their COVID-19 vaccines (Novavax, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson), things are progressing quite well. All three are presently in Phase III clinical trials and once approved that would bring the total of available vaccines up to five, and that should be more than enough to get wide scale vaccinations accomplished. It is my understanding that when you get a COVID-19 vaccine, you'll be issued a 'proof of vaccination' card that will list the date of your first inoculation along with the scheduled date of your second one. Once complete, you'll likely retain this card and the hope is that this will serve to clear up travel and entrance requirements any where you travel. I can't say for sure if you'll still need to show a COVID-19 test, but that would be a needless task IMO. Let's hope health officials on SXM see things this way.

Please note that the potential vaccines from AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson appear to require just a single injection. So, that would make things a bit simpler for many people.

You receive a Covid-19 Vaccination Record Card. Pfizer and Moderna both attach a sticker that include a lot number of the vial you received. I’ve seen a picture from healthcare friends of both.

Thanks for explaining this. It helps clear things up! Not speaking of just St. Maarten, but any country that values tourism will hopefully use these vaccination cards as all the proof they need that potential visitors are safe to enter. So, I believe that will be the case in the near future. Have you put plans in place for your next visit to SXM? One thing to remember that even with the mRNA vaccines used by Pfizer and Moderna it will still take our bodies about 10 to 14 days to build the necessary antibodies for full protection from COVID-19 disease.

My wife has received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. The second dose is administered 3 weeks after the first. I have not seen a Vaccine Record Card. Maybe she gets it after the second dose.

I would suggest checking into this, Jaybird. The proof of vaccination card is likely to become very important down the road for a variety of reasons beyond just travel. Did they provide you with any type of documentation including the date to return for the second dose?

My mistake. She did get a Vaccination Record Card. It lists the date of the injection and has a place where they will put the date of of the second injection.

That's good to know. That may prove quite useful if we learn that a vaccine booster shot will be needed nine months or a year down the road. Everyone of us that eventually gets vaccinated should keep precise records of what vaccine they received, and the exact dates of these injections. Also, good news today as England has now approved the vaccine from AstraZeneca so it should hopefully just be a matter of weeks before the FDA does the same here in the states.

I just got the first injection of the Pfizer vaccine. No side effects. I get the second injection in three weeks. I did get a Covid-19 Vaccination Record Card. It lists the date received and the type of vaccine. It has a place to record the second dose when received. I just hope that at some time in the near future this is all we will need to travel to SXM.

Interesting that Great Britain now has enough vaccines to immunize the whole population and have eliminated any priorities....vaccine is available for everyone and they expect to be totally immunized by spring. Obviously not the same pop as the US but more than most states...

My understanding is that the vaccination helps your body handle the infection, but you could still be a carrier.

But you have to wait for 12 weeks before you get the needed second shot. First shot won't be as effective without that follow up one.

Where did you get 12 weeks?

CDC indicates 3 weeks for the Pfizer vaccine.

Congrats on being the first ones on TTOL to get the jab. It is very exciting to see a mRNA jab in human trials and when 90% of the population is on board we can then return to normal.

Refering to the Astra Zenica that the UK just appoved nentioned in boucharda post above. Their supply dictates a 12 week wait for second shot.

I believe the wait between shots is 4-12 weeks which gives more wiggle room in scheduling

Carol, I am not in the medical field but my wife is an RN. The hospital where she is employed allowed immediate family members over 65 and those under 65 with certain medical conditions to get the vaccine. I fall in the over 65 group. The governor in Texas put those over 65 in line for the vaccine after front line medical workers and nursing home residents. My arm is sore at the injection site but so far I have no other side effects.

I received my first vaccination on 12/18 and will receive the second on 1/8. I work as a nurse at the University of Michigan. I have a card along with email information regarding the lot number for the Pfizer vaccine. My wife is in education hoping to get the vaccine in February. We will be arriving on the island on 1/29 through 2/14.

Awesome getting the vaccine so quickly. I'll be curious to see if health officials on St. Martin will relax or waive testing requirements given the fact that you'll be fully vaccinated by 1/29. By receiving the second injection on 1/8, you should have sufficient antibodies built up in your system within two weeks after that date to prevent significant infection from contact with the virus. However, mask wearing and some degree of social distancing will likely be necessary for a while until it is determined that vaccinated individuals cannot spread COVID. With your wife in education (like my wife) you may want to check into her getting the vaccine sooner based on whatever guidelines you have in Michigan, because I believe those in education with contact with students, faculty, staff, etc. would be Phase 1B under CDC guidelines. Maybe she can get the vaccine in January.

Lucky people who are able to get it---our state is 75 and above---even if you are 74
with medical conditions!

Many states, like Florida, have stayed with the 65 and over--

Hopefully things will speed up and we will all be vaccinated.

Carol I was told a couple who live in Bristol, RI went to Florida and got the vaccine already. Don't you live in Florida? Shot are being given at Publix Markets. I would think full time residents should get priority to "snowbirds." Maybe this is another case where voting records should be consulted since that couple vote in RI?

Florida is giving the vaccine to everyone over the age of 65 in many County run facilities..but...most have switched to appointment only and are kinda overwhelmed right now. Snowbirds are an important part of the Florida economy and it would not help if they stayed home until they were vaccinated

Publix is only providing this in three counties right now .

Weather or not a snowbird is important to our (Florida's) economy or not--our county got a limited amount of vaccine which was taken up almost immediately. We now have to wait until more is received to get in line to register and have an appointment. I would not be a happy camper if someone from out of state or even out of my county got one before I did. Residence records should absolutely be being checked no matter where the vaccine is being given out.

Our county is WAY behind in receiving shipments of the vaccine. We can only call in to register to get on the list for a shot, and it is basically impossible to get through on the phone. I have been trying.

That is one messed up article....The point that a sane person would get from the Governor's mandate is that if certain facilities can't distribute the vaccines they have then the vaccines will (should) go some place that CAN administer them. Maybe I'm weird but that makes sense to me...and you are correct...waaaaay too much out-of-there issues written there to even comment on
