Thanks for posting this. Been trying to follow this closely, but updates have been scarce. It makes so much sense for this summer let's hope they can get this done. COVID testing for fully vaccinated individuals may reveal a positive here and there, but these will be so few that in reality continued testing will truly be a waste of time and resources. Maybe the WHO can get something up-and-running so such passports can be used all around the world.

That's definitely a start....but it will be kinda confusing to have each state issue their own passport (assuming all states will) ....and only for those or tested or vaccinated in that specific state. I live in MA but was vaccinated in FL and get tested in RI soooooo .....no MA Pass for me

Yes, the WHO and the CCP coming up with a plan where you'll have to show your papers in order to travel anywhere, facilitated by the Biden administration?
Seriously? Be very careful what you wish for.

Ok....I won't respond to the CCP thing (Chinese Communist Party) since that's WAAAY out there reference but:

Quote
International health regulations for travelers require inoculations only against yellow fever. The WHO has advised countries not to require COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of travel. However, some countries have started to check for proof of vaccination to avoid quarantine and testing requirements — and the WHO’s vaccination record can be used in some circumstances.

...and If proof of vaccination card lets me travel then I am all for it....if anyone has issues then don't get it...kinda like the vaccine itself. Do what you think works for YOU

I remember 1966 my first trip abroad was to Spain & Portugal and we had to get a vaccine before we could travel. I don't remember which vaccine now but my mother became very ill from it.

My point is this new passport for travel is nothing new. If one checks on the country one wishes to travel to one will find there are still many places requiring certain vaccines to travel.

Exactly, Rosemary. As an Army Brat, I spent my entire childhood having to be vaccinated against one thing or another, and keeping that little yellow booklet current. Heaven forbid if it was lost, as I'd have to get all those shots again!

That's fantastic news; thank you for sharing that study. Interesting that it's a CDC study, yet the director of the CDC is warning of "Impending Doom". The fear mongering really does need to stop.

The warning is because cases in many states are on the rise...."impending doom" might be a bit aggressive though ...and.....at least in RI the increase in cases are in groups that haven't been given access to vaccine so it might make sense...

Quote
RHODE ISLAND Providence: Public health officials are monitoring a recent rise in coronavirus cases among children ages 10 to 14. The age group now has the third-highest rate of weekly infections, WPRI-TV reports.

Only the 15-18 and 19-24 groups have higher rates, state statistics show.

The vaccine only works if you TAKE it. Our county had a positivity rate of 9% yesterday.

Taking the vaccine is a personal choice. I don't understand those who choose not to take it, but I also have no sympathy for them if they become ill. They won't infect me, and while that statement may seem selfish, their choice to not get vaccinated is even more selfish. Yes, some people have not yet had access to the vaccine, and those people need to continue to exercise caution until they can gain the protections that the vaccine provides. We've all been vaccinated against polio, smallpox, MMR, chickenpox, and no end of other diseases that have been all but eradicated because of the availability of effective vaccines.

I stand by my statement that a prediction of "Impending Doom" is fear mongering, and totally uncalled for.

The virus has the ability to mutate and has done so, and the current vaccines may or may NOT be effective against the mutations, so the sooner that the vast majority of people take it, the sooner everyone will be safer.

Now they are saying the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine has been effective with all strains so far. Hope it continues to be.

The notions that there is "fear mongering" and "well, *I'm* vaccinated" are exactly the problem that Dr. Walensky is warning about.

Too many people in general, and state governors in particular have apparently decided that the pandemic is over and there is no longer
anything to worry about. However the amount of the population of the US which is fully vaccinated is still small, and the amount of the
rest of the planet even smaller.

While the vaccines offer near 100% protection against severe illness, they're offering only about 90% against infection. We don't yet
know if it's possible to be infected after vaccination and be contagious. And if you can be infected, you're possibly contributing
to the mutation and production of new strains. There is ZERO guarantee that this thing can't/won't mutate into something that is
resistant or totally unaffected by the vaccination. So being immunized is very important, and everyone who can, should. However
at this time taking precautions to protect yourself and others is also STILL important. And if Dr. Walensky needs to fear-monger people
into better behavior, so be it.

In the mean time, we also have to beat back conspiracy theories regarding a Vaccine Passport, which is utterly ludicrous. I get where
Dr. Walensky is coming from!

Stay safe folks!

I hear you but all the so called experts predicted doom and gloom when Texas ended the mask mandate and the infection/hospitalization rate went down since it was removed. I'm fully vaccinated but will continue to wear a mask when and where mandated.

we went to Asia recently and it was recommended to get Typhoid and Yellow Fever which we did. But we didn't have to carry proof to enter. I would gladly bring paper proof of having vaccines. That has been around forever.

but really don't like the idea of a repository for my medical stuff maintain ed by our "top people", you know the same ones in Raiders of the Lost Ark working on the Arc.

I'll gladly bring my embossed, 3-d barcode print out.

And yeah, this will grow if we let it germinate.

we are vaccinated but their is still a 5%+ risk that we choose to accept. Those who choose not to be vaccinated choose to accept higher risk.

Now if you choose not to be vaccinated and fly the MAX down, I'm betting your first stop is the Maho Casino.

Hubby and I FINALLY managed to get appointments for vaccine. We were constantly told no appointments due to no vaccine.or both of us.

But we still had trouble getting same day appointments for both of us even though I saw many times available when I booked hubby's then went back for mine and got "no appointments available choose another place. I waited a minute tried again and the appointments were there so I'm not sure what's going on here in RI. At least when I scheduled 1st appointment it also came back with a date and time for 2nd shot.

Yup....painful experience getting an appointment slot. We are in FL and tried for weeks and I finally got one at a Publix in Sarasota...about 90 minutes from where we are in Cape Coral....but I just grabbed anything....and my better half got an appointment two days later....same place. Sooooo four trips to Sarasota but I am DONE and my wife will be done tomorrow.....both came with the 2nd appointment already made

Rosemary--glad you have been able to get your appointments. It has been a tribulation for many, that's for sure. boucharda--we had to go 45 minutes one way, and thought our trip was one of the longer ones! smile

Will move this thread to People Talk, since it really isn't about SXM anymore..

I am very excited about the concept of a vaccine passport to travel, as a positive Covid test in Sxm would be nearly impossible for the grandparents watching our minor children, since I’m assuming we would be quarantined for an additional 7-14 days. I realize that there is still a chance I could contact it while fully vaccinated but it sounds like the viral load would be negligible, ascertained from articles I’ve read.

Thanks for the link Scubaman. I'm going to get a protective cover or sleeve for my card this weekend. My wife gets her second Pfizer dose on Friday and my youngest son has 'sternly' warned her by saying "mom, you won't have total immunity until you reach 13 to 15 days post second inoculation so play it smart for another two weeks. You can still contract the virus." The message is quite clear and that's don't plan your next trip the day after you receive your second shot. Just give it a little more time. And, the vaccines (especially those based on mRNA technology) will handle the variants quite well. He has assured us of that so I'm willing to take his word for it.

The only people who have (maybe) died after being vaccinated, are those who (maybe) got blood clots, after taking the Astra-Zeneca vaccine - which has not yet been approved for use in the USA - and probably never will be.
I am unaware of anyone who has died after taking the Pfizer, Moderna or J&J vaccines. I do not understand why some people refuse the vaccine. Covid kills.

Wife and I got our final Pfizer jabs on Good Friday. Will not be returning to SXM until December ( long story). I can't wait to go back..

A friend of mine and a long time co-worker waited and waited to seek getting the vaccine, despite my constant prodding him. I told him this is a terrible virus, and you simply can't take chances by hoping you're not going to get it. Finally, I gave up and said to him "it's your health, not mine." Today, as I write this, he is struggling in the COVID unit at one of our local hospitals after coming down with COVID-19 disease about a week ago. Dangerously low blood oxygen levels that despite maximum supplemental oxygen just don't seem to be helping him that much. No visitors except his brother, and even then only because his brother is fully vaccinated and still is required to wear the full bio hazard clothing and shields when he does visit him. He told me yesterday while having difficulty speaking and breathing at the same time over the phone that "if he survives this, he will never, ever take another chance like this with his health." Just hoping and praying this isn't too late for him.

Thanks, Scubaman. We have all been given this gift of an effective vaccine(s) to choose, and not doing everything in one's power not to get it just bewilders me. Let's hope that others who are questioning whether to get it will come to their senses and do the right thing regardless of political or religious beliefs.

No vaccine has ever, ever been 100 percent effective. Not the smallpox vaccine, or the polio vaccine, or even the measles vaccines (though the latter was very close). Try to think where we would be without these vaccines and their outstanding 94-95 percent efficacy? Reports on 'dangerous variants' and 'breakthrough cases' make for sensational headlines and draw readers to those sources as people are often driven by fear and tend to think the worse. There's only so much the scientific community can say, and if people choose to ignore this then they can take their chances with the virus.

With all due respect, did you read the article? The cases quoted were pulled from local news outlets and ABC News. Those aren't reliable either? I am not anti vaccine at all. It's a choice you have to make yourself. I'm sure I will get vaccinated sometime soon. But in the meantime I just want to see how it plays out. ALL articles from ALL sources help in making my vaccination decision. Just because I don't agree with a site's opinion doesn't mean it is "ridiculous".
