Long time SXMers. Never been to St Croix. Our daughter is looking at St Croix for a honeymoon.... The Sand Castle on the Beach - Frederiksted

Many many moons ago I learned about SXM on this site so looking for some information on this property and St Croix in general

We are used to renting a vehicle on SXM... beach hopping.

Can anyone give me an idea of what there is for them to do on St Croix and again on the property. Should they rent a car? Taxis?

Thanks

BobnLiz

We just went down to St Croix on our sailboat last month and stayed for about a week. I was working remotely so didn't fully immerse myself in all that there was to do, but there were definitely some highlights.

Buck Island for snorkeling and hiking was great! We really enjoyed snorkeling the cruise ship pier in Frederiksted. We also spent a couple of hours eating and drinking at The Fred, an amazing eco-resort on the beach in Frederiksted. It had a vibe somewhere between South Beach and Key West. We had lunch and sampled the vodka at Sion Farm. There are some fun bars along the boardwalk in Christensted and the fort has recently reopened for tours.

A couple of years ago, I spent 3 months there working on a project. I spent part of a day at Sand Castle as there is a nice beach and restaurant. I don't recall seeing anything else to do on the property. I stayed close to Christiansted and i like that end of the island. Might be fun and memorable to fly into STT and take the Seaborne sea plane to Christiansted unless Frederiksted is a done deal. In addition to what Swifty mentioned, a couple of interesting things I remember was a night kayak trip to see phosphorescence in water at Salt River Bay and the beer drinking hogs in the rain forest.

Michael and I went MANY years ago before cruise ships were there....or when they were on hiatus.

I enjoyed it. We stayed at the DIVI there. It's very very night.
My memories of the island is that it is VERY quiet. I thoroughly enjoy peace and quiet but this was even a little TOO quiet for me.
The beach at Divi was lovely.

Oh yeah, the beer drinking pigs....those were fun!

St. Croix never had very many cruise ships stop there. Maybe one every other week or so.

That's probably why the coral is so prevalent on the pier!

We stayed at Sand Castle last October and again in December. Their restaurant has a great menu and good service. It's hard to find a better beach setting for dinner on the Frederiksted side of the Island. The accommodations were spot on for the money and the owners were very hospitable and looked after every detail. We met several honeymoon couples staying on the property. We have stayed at The Buccaneer in the past but will always return to Sand Castle in the future.

We rented a jeep for a few days ,in the middle of our stay, to explore. Definitely lots of fun places to visit. Too many to see in a week.

We've only been to St. Croix on a cruise, so I don't really have much info to provide, other than I assume you saw on their website the notice that they were going to be doing renovations around now, plus the restaurant is supposed to be closed for supposedly the month of August? The hotel does look nice, although I confess I am jonesing so hard for the Caribbean right now, all I see is the blue water and I'm sold!!!!
