I really need to feed my BVI Junkie needs so after getting back from my 18 June trip going right back down 06 July. Crew all have Medicare. It appears they don’t cover international illness so what is best option if anyone else has been through the portal process with Medicare.

George, they need to think beyond the portal: what happens if they get sick/injured and need medical care. We have MedJet Assist for evacuation. But they would need some sort of medigap coverage for medical costs.

They all have supplemental tricare coverage so they are in pretty good shape in that regard. Tricare won’t issue them a coverage letter like they did for me however since they are secondary.

I’m not familiar with tricare, but wouldn’t they be primary outside the US? Seems odd they won’t provide a letter if they would be the ones insuring.

I thought the same, we are going to try again in the morning.

Thinking the folks need to get or have insurance that covers them in the BVI I have AARP medicare advantage coverage which is worldwide. BVI probably won't require insurance as there is no longer a quarantine for vaxxed folks.

Others have suggested DAN. Get the top end and there should be no worries.
I used it in PNG for medical treatment and they were exceptionally user friendly and covered all medical including chamber Tx. If needed they would have covered medevac or other transportation needs.

Confused…Medicare Advantage plans provide emergency medical/medivac coverages internationally…
We use Allianz and/or MedJet, but Medicare does provide coverage…

Tricare Overseas is the agent dealing with Tricare issues outside the boundaries of the US. Tricare for Life (TFL) is the secondary payer to Medicare. Tricare Overseas in the past has issued letters regarding medical coverage to TFL covered folks applying visas to countries requiring private insurance while in country, Tricare Overseas is a reimbursement plan and does not pay overseas healthcare providers directly and does not cover medical evaluation.

We used our Medicare supplement . Something I did not know was that those Medicare supplant policies during first 60 days overseas.

We called Mutual of Omaha and they put our policy numbers with a copy of the text of a brochure about it. Sent along with medjet horizon card. Seemed to make em happy.

While I agree that quarantine expenses are much less of an issue, there is still the risk that you test positive on your exit test and need to quarantine for two weeks. I guess this is not a risk with an antibody test and ferry to USVI.
