Trip report Last 3 days June 25-27 Well, after wonderful 10 days on the island we are home now. Trip back was very uneventful and smooth. We flew United non- stop to EWR which left properly on time and arrived to Newark 30 min early. Got to airport 2 hours early, United counter was uncrowned as opposed to American, so we we at the gate in about 20 minuets. Airport was not really crowded, probably because it was Monday. The last three day weren’t much different from days before. Sleep, eat, drink, swim. Did not go in the ocean as the whole time we were there it was very rough with good size waves and last two days a lot of grass washed up on the beach. One night cooked steaks in the unit and last two went out. Palms one night, DH had their famous lasagna and enjoyed it, I had their garlic shrimp which was good also and slice of their carrot cake to go. Last nights dinner was at Skip Jacks, I was glad I made reservations as the place was totally packed with all tables occupied. Seemed like most people had their lobsters, they had plenty of them in the lobster pen. We didn’t have one as we weren’t that hungry, scallops and shrimp dishes. The service and food were very good, glad the place is back, one of our favorites. So that concludes our 10 days trip, pack and go home the next day. This was one of more rainy trips, rained every day but for short time. Island is pretty green and a lot of flowers. Did not go to P-burg this trip, but drove around and island looks pretty busy, Sunday night Simpson Bay was hoping with locals and tourists, there was no parking anywhere, all restaurants were packed. So I think may be we are on the road to recovery now. As far as Covid goes I think the requirements are loosening up there too, the only place we seeing masks being used in the grocery stores. Some servers in restaurants had them under their chins but not many had them on. Hardly any guests walked in wearing one. Didn’t bother us any, it’s about time to throw them all away IMHO. Start counting days till our next trip in November, 3 weeks next time.

Glad you had a nice end to your trip and a much calmer airport experience than we did. What did the American lines look like?

Another trip in the books and it sounds very nice. I’m almost afraid to say this but I’m sure the island looks beautiful in its entirety judging by all the rainy day comments. I always feel badly for those dealing with it and wish their days could be perfect but the rain happens and clearly it didn’t ruin your trip.
TY for sharing.
Respectfully,
pat

Our flight was the first one of the day so it was still early, we got there around 11am. American check in was pretty full, squiggling through those ropes but none outside. May be 100 plus people. United had maybe 10. It was KLM day so their counter was busy too.

By the way, one day we had really bad rain and skylights in #13 were leaking really bad, water was pouring all over the floor and table. Showed it to them.

"Some servers in restaurants had them under their chins but not many had them on. Hardly any guests walked in wearing one. Didn’t bother us any, it’s about time to throw them all away IMHO." And that is why, combined with low vaccine rates, island will still have to require tests entering and leaving. Entry tests are required by SXM, the leaving/exit tests are required by the US for return, they are NOT required by the island. Give it a rest.

Luda, so glad you and Jim had such a great trip. I sure do miss you guys, it's been while. Due to health and COVID, I haven't been there since Oct/Nov 2019. Trip already planned for BSV Oct/Nov this coming year. We all used to have so much fun together. Pam & Dwayne are actually here in CT visiting for a week from OR. I hope your time in November will mesh with ours and we'll see you in SXM again.

Sorry to hear your experience at Skip Jacks was not as good as ours was. We never had a bad meal there. I like their grilled lobster.

Hi Mike. Yes it has been a while since we overlapped at Beachside, we missed all of early November crowd! Some parties we had on the pool deck! We been coming around Thanksgiving time. This year again we probably going to miss you guys as we scheduled to arrive on November 13th and you probably going to be gone by then. Maybe next year I will schedule to arrive earlier and stay longer, we are both retired now. Say hi to Pam and Dwayne from us.

Regarding the skylights, yes, the one skylight did drip a little bit one evening. We were going to tell them and forgot. Hopefully they will take care of it.

Sorry to hear your experience at Skip Jacks was not as good as ours was. We never had a bad meal there. I like their grilled lobster. Skipjacks used to be one of our favorites too but last time beforethey closed it was disapointing and this last May was even worse. to bad. Hope they get their act together.
