It's Basic Economy, which I personally wouldn't do, versus Main Cabin, but our dates in September/October are available for $179 ROUNDTRIP from Miami to SXM. Main Cabin is only $259 roundtrip. We are booked on miles and I am considering cancelling (which I can do and redeposit miles with no cost) and paying for tickets...
Looking at passenger loads at this point, I am a little afraid they may cancel some of these flights from Miami, which AA doesn't normally ever do, but this is 2021...

I'm already booked for October using miles. I just checked fares again based on your message. The ONLY first-class flight available on my travel date is . . . $14,895! That is not a typo!

We flew AA last December out of Charlotte, and those flights are still over $600 for basic economy for December 2021. We ended up going out of ATL for $450 this year, but our flights are now $914 for main cabin and basic economy is no longer an option. Flying just one day earlier brings the cost back down to $450, though.
I'm torn on passenger loads. It was great having a mostly empty plane last year, but I'm also worried about the flights getting cancelled in a few months. Our flight to SXM is actually pretty full. The return looks more like what we had in 2020 and is mostly empty.

Linda--first class is a different animal, as far as pricing. We're flying a Thursday to a Friday and cattle class looks dead empty both ways, although perhaps a lot of people have booked Basic Economy and didn't pay for seats . I didn't even look at First Class.

dvesc--December is a different situation than October, and it does make a big difference if you have a connection, versus a nonstop. I have noted that there appear to be a couple of days when AA does NOT have a nonstop from Miami to SXM, which I have never seen, except right after a hurricane, etc.

Lordy Lordy. That is outrageous. We paid 1,100 each for First Class for next May arriving on a Saturday. Retuning on Miles for 45,000 First Class each.
