Can anyone chime in with what kind of recent airfares they've seen going to STT? Even though it's been a while since we last visited the USVI, I'm wondering if there are still fares around $400 available or if that's a thing of the past. I remember our 1st trip where airfare was about $350. Of course that was roughly 17 years ago and it was an all-day slog with hours-long layovers through DFW and SJU. Also, the fact that I live in the city that has America's most expensive airport probably ain't helpin' me out much either.

$370 to $450 seems to be the going rate in the DC Area (IAD, DCA, BWI, and RIC).
The nice thing is to live within 1 hr 15 min of all of them.
Of course depending on what day you depart, etc... cost will change RADICALLY. United has a direct flight out of IAD that runs $100 to $150 more that rarely goes on sale.
Spirit has been running specials out of BWI thru FLL to STT for $284, but it is my understanding they charge for everything so it works out to be close to the same price.
I did look at Kayak, and man you are right about the prices out of Huntsville. The Rocket Boys should be treated better than that!
I would look for routes via ATL or CLT to escape the DFW insanity.

Yeah, Delta through ATL or US Airways through CLT are definitely the way to go. $685 is the best I can find from HSV for the 1st week of June. Looked at BHM (B'ham, AL) and BNA (Nashville) which are typically cheaper but each is at least the same or higher. Guess I shoulda started pricing flights earlier than last week!

We've been seeing the best prices 4-5 months out, earlier if we can commit early. For frequent flyer tickets we've been booking the each flight as a one-way ticket as soon as the window opens 300 days out - those go fast. Our most expensive roundtrip ticket in recent years was $472 in March.
Spirit is a tough sell for us. It's got the tightest row spacing with up charges for reserved seats and carryon luggage. I'm booking two weeks in January and Spirit $47 less per ticket than AA & Delta, but $26 per carryon and $25 for a reserved seat eats the difference. The other challenge with Spirit is the single plane they have going to and from St. Thomas each day. If you miss that for any reason or its canceled, then your on the next available seat on a Spirit Air flight - no deals with other airlines.

Rick, we will be down the same time period in June, hope to meet you. You can usually get tickets under $100 on Spirit. I believe carry on is more expensive, $35 and $25 for checked baggage. You do not have to buy seats, only if you want exits, close to the front, or the BIG FRONT SEAT which we always buy for $50, it's first class without the service.

Evan, I wish we were seeing $100 fares on Spirit. I saw you mention you were in Crown Bay for maintenance around the same time. Meet you at Tickles?

Don't look for cheap prices from CLT,,,the cheapest price in June is $489 and that's only on the 4th, other days are $550 and up. It's what I get for living in a one airline town (USAir flys 90% of the traffic in and out of CLT.) It's usually cheaper to fly into CLT from somewhere else and then on to STT rather than direct from CLT.

Crazy, it's cheaper than that to fly from DC via CLT to STT.

Cheers, RickG For us, it is cheaper to fly from MDT (Harrisburg) to PHL to catch the direct US Airways flight than it is to take it from PHL. You're right, it doesn't make any sense.

That is pretty much universal, it seems. It costs LESS to fly from x to y to z than it does to fly from y to z alone.

Maybe after the govt brings peace to the middle east and solves healthcare in the US the can work on the airline industry.
Can you imagine if other industries working like the airline industry. I can see it...
Yes sir to do foot surgery it will be $5000, but if you go to the eye doctor next door on the same day for cataract surgery we can combine it with the foot surgery and do both for $3799 - such a deal. Ahhh rats I don't have cataract problem... Sorry sir it is $5000!

Ha! You can't get there from here! One of the terrible truths about living *in* the Caribbean is that it is not easy to negotiate *around* the Caribbean. You can always try LIAT, although you probably would have to island hop and switch carriers.

MIA to STT, July 5th, American $629 RT First Class. Bought that a week ago. Plus found a Hilton Property .5 from MIA with $129 / night room with 14 days covered parking included.
