Well I had some guests coming to my Airbnb in Maho Feb 13 on Air Transat. Their flight was cancelled this morning. It looks like based on Air Transat site, that all flights to SXM from Toronto have been cancelled until Feb 20. 🙄

I’ve got to say, I’m not surprised. Things here in Canada are not good. I work in healthcare and saying that it’s an actual poop show would be pretty accurate. I’ve lost count of how many people I know that have either had Covid, we’re exposed to it, or had Covid like symptoms and now you’re just suppose to assume you had Covid because you can’t get tested. I was suppose to be waking up this morning in SXM and cancelled due to everything going on. I’ve worked 19 months straight with only 1 week off and was just getting by because I was watching YouTube videos about SXM and was excited to go back to my much loved SXM. Saying I’m disappointed would be an understatement. I feel sorry for my husband who has to put up with my miserable a$$ right now.

I think everyone has to weigh out their own risk comfort ability. I think that most people are pretty scared of getting to SXM and then testing positive. The stories I’m hearing about people getting stuck in different countries and the lack of information of how to handle this and when you can leave is pretty scary. I know people that ended up having to pay thousands of dollars because one of their kids tested positive, so one parent stayed behind. That parent then tested positive 3 days later. They didn’t end up leaving until 15 days from the date they were actually supposed to leave.

I wonder how long WestJet will be running flights. They might actually pick up everyone else’s customers if they end up the only ones doing flights. I’m sorry that your clients had to cancel their reservation, but at this point I think the fear of so much going wrong is scaring the crap out of everyone.

Agree on all points. Having said that, I am leaving on Air Canada flight next Thursday. One of the last Air Canada flights to leave before they stop. I am going to my own place so it is a little different.
I am booked to fly back February 10th on WestJet. My contingency plan could be to stay longer or come back Sunwing if they continue to fly.
Like most everyone, I have some concerns about flying down with the abundance of covid-19 cases. The Dutch side has roughly 2,500 cases and the French side more than 3,000. Of course those are the ones that are counted. We could probably say there are many more than that.
I won't be doing any group activities while I'm there, just a few odd jobs in my place I would like to get done. Of course I can go for walks or hang out by the condo pool without much exposure. And I am double vaxxed with a booster so that's as good as it can be.
I will probably post here my experience going down and coming back. Very sad that you and others are not able to go on a well-deserved vacation in Paradise. Not fair at all.
Hopefully my next post will be from sxm.

Good luck! Worst case scenario, if you end up with Covid, you could quarantine in your own place. Hopefully this doesn’t happen and you have a wonderful time!

Yes that would have to be the plan.
Hopefully not the case. Currently here in Ontario I'm retired and with everything closed I can't do much other than go to the grocery store.
I may as well be there doing the same thing and enjoying the warmer weather.

Keep you posted

We are sitting with our fingers(and toes!) crossed for our WestJet flight out of Toronto on feb 24…. Wife and daughter both got Covid right before Xmas and recovered, I never really got sick(or maybe I did but was asymptomatic)…So we are pretty much Covid proof at this moment.

Anyway we have booked WestJet for the same day back & plane had 9 empty seats yesterday afternoon. We have friends arriving WestJet tomorrow & next thursday. Hope they make it!! Dicey times then there's that test to go home. Yikes!!

Happy to see you made it, very sad that I didn't. That sucks about Air Transit.

Say hi to everyone from Otis and I!
