Was at Gunnison yesterday and it was great, now mostly all back to normal as far as recovering from Sandy. The walkway thru the woods from the parking lot has been rebuilt. The woven plastic walkway takes you at least part of the way to the beach from the bathhouse, as before. The only obvious change from pre-Sandy is that absence of a food stand on the beach (there are food trucks near the bathhouse) and the Seagull's Nest restaurant is still closed, I believe.
The parking lot was surprisingly not full for a sunny Sunday but it's early in the season. Still a nice size crowd on the beach. Ranger Tim had his last day on Saturday, we'll miss him.

Am I the only one that it is rude to set up wind screens in front of people...I go to the beach to see the ocean, get there early to get a good spot, all of a sudden someone comes and set a wind screen right in front of me.Ispend the whole day looking at the back of there screen....WE need a no wind screen zone...

Sounds like the same type of person that insists on using their phone to talk or texting during an entire Movie I just spent $ 15.00 to see.

I see nothing rude with a polite request as they are setting it up (esp if you were there first), something along the lines of "Oh, I'm sorry to bother you but could you set that up further down please, it's blocking my view?". If that doesn't work then I bring out my boom box with some nice heavy metal music with lots of cuss words etc playing really loud until they decide to move on and may be walk past their set up quickly in some flip flops a few times to really get the sand going, you know to "rinse off" some stuff 1 thing at a time, get my feet/legs wet etc.... (sorry guess I'm in a bit of a snarky mood this morning....)

That is very rude. You set yourself up and it is like they are on top of you. Why would you need a windscreen anyway? People go there to be naked. Why are you hiding behind a windscreen? Sounds like they are vouyers or they are anti-social.either way, they showed poor nude ettiquite.

Since you wish enjoy an unobstructed view of the sea, it might be a good idea to gauge the tides and set up as close to the waters edge as possible. ' Another suggestion might be to set up a few Place Holder blankets, chairs, umbrellas (closed of course) in the sight line that you wish to preserve, similar to the towel game frequently played at resorts. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.dw.de/image/0,,3113816_4,00.jpg)

Joe- One use of a windscreen is, guess what, to block wind, e.g. when cool sea breeze kicks up. That's what we did this past weekend, just a couple panels part way up to keep the wifey warm. It can be cool even this time of year, especially when it blows 20-30 mph out of the southeast like it did on Sunday! Didn't block any views since it was perpendicular to water's edge. Obviously there are inconsiderate people on the beach, as there are everywhere.

Chuck--I understand why someone would want to use them keep the wind off, but it would be a balancing act, to ensure that no one's view was blocked.. I'm glad we live in Florida.

C, remember when they used to have the wooden posts marking the boundary line for windscreens? Wonder why they did away with it.

PeteMy guess is that Tim was satisfied that people stopped blocking access with them. (i.e. got more considerate)

N.J. news described it as a massive algae bloom. Supposedly can be seen from outer space.

Friends who were at Gunnison last weekend say they did not see the "slime" at all. Maybe it was worse farther south.
